Haha, no I came from a "GM" and corvette family and still own one GM vehicle . (did I just admit that out loud?) I don't have any problem with the SS moniker as a whole, but something of the caliber of the "Corvette SS" deserves more of a one-off name like the RPO numbers (ZR-1, ZR-2, Z06, etc.) use in the past/present.
What's the RPO number going to be for the SS package? They should just call it that if anything that's not already a retro RPO number.

Yeah, but SS couldn't possibly remind you of Cobalt if you grew up around GM, instead I think of the glory days of muscle cars...
Hrmmm 1970 Chevelle SS 454......ahhhhh......*drool*....

What I'm saying is that Corvette has always been above the SS line. Even when you had the LS6 SS chevelles you still had the aluminum L88 powered vettes to put them in their place.
Any true GM fan should know that Corvettes always need to be at the top of the GM performance heap, whether just perceived to be that way or otherwise. Corvettes have never used SS in their name and have always used RPO numbers to designate the highest performance flagship models. I see no reason this should change now.

ya that's my only thing about calling it the SS, is there has never been a Corvette SS...
but then again, there has never been a vette remotely CLOSE to it's magnitude

I'm sure it will probably remain the Corvette SS. Sigh... They probably want to create a cohesive performance Chevy line in the SS, a la Redline at Saturn, GXP at Pontiac, V at Caddy, SRT at Dodge, etc. and they think they need the Corvette SS to fortify the SS=performance image. -1 more for Chevy.
Corvette should stay a distinct sub-devision of Chevy like Earl and Duntov intended. Ever noticed that there are no prominent bowties on Vette's. Let me guess, they're next. :/
Back to the OP though, I really do wonder how much of an improvement this upgraded 430 will be considering the new GT3 still falls short of the Z06 on VIR.

Didn't the Z06 name come from the 1963 Corvette Z06? I thought it did...
Corvette SS does sound a little silly, even from someone that has been a fan of 60's GM muscle cars since I was a fan of cars.
And the ZL-1 Corvette, to me, was the baddest assest Corvette ever even though yes there was a Camaro ZL-1 and then that newer red F-Body thing. I think the new hottness should be called the ZL-1. Only problem is a large percentage of the prospective buyers prolly have no idea what that is/was.
Why would you put a non-reclining race seat in a street car? The stock EVO seats are actually pretty sweet anyway.
