Whatever happened to the Discovery channel (and the like...)

Like all the other TV stations, Discovery and the other "educational" channels are just pandering to the lowest common denominator to stay afloat now. Think about it: when you go into the streets, don't you feel strangers getting stupider and stupider by the week?

I just noticed that most of the programs went from covering nature and the wonders of the natural world to engineering and how people build stuff or how machines work.

what's wrong with mythbusters? I enjoy the show and actually learn from some of their experiments.
I got quite the kick out of the bullet resistant phone book armored suv segment they did
