Any chance for obtaining another position within the company? Possibly a lateral or even advanced move?

Nah because it's an insurance company, and I won't sell insurance Time will tell though.

I found out they signed a contract to go to new agency management software in May and didn't even tel me/consult me. The only thing that can mean is I am done as they don't even buy a new mouse for their home PC's without asking me first.

I know it's business so I am trying really hard not to take it personally. The company is splitting in half, the four owners can't agree anymore and there will not be a need for an IT person if they outsource this new management system and only have half the staff. All that I would be admining is 23 workstations, a domain controller and an exchange server. Before it was 46 workstations, two DC's, exchange, an IIS, and an IBM RS600. I am fu(ked

damn, that sucks. Well, with IT experience, what are you talking about nobody within 300 miles needing someone. I'm sure there are quite a few companie that are in need of someone good in IT...are you certified in anything? Also, you said it's splitting in half, have you consulted both halves?

I have a few certs but never got current other than MCP on server 2k3. I totally know my stuff though, from doing it all hands on. I built this infrastructure and maintain the whole thing myself. It may end up I become a consultant for both parites moving forward but not a full time employee. I could dig that. If I made 20k less a year I could survive.

sounds like that might be a plan. You could always work somewhere as a computer tech (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.) to get benefits, then work the consulting on the side maybe 10-20 hours a week...
