What would you do?

If you had a good job, that payed decent money, and you knew that in about a month, after 5 years your position was about to be eliminated.

discuss....

So? You still start looking. If you know your job is going to be gone in a month, you start looking and start adding to your skill set.

No one said I wasn't going to look for new employment. Just saying.

My point was more that if there isn't a job requiring your skillset within 300 mi., its time to add to your skillset.

Anyone know how unemployement works? Never used it. Do I get at least 50% of my current pay?

If you are sick and tired of working for people...now would be a good time to think about starting your own business.

300 miles? San Francisco, Eureka, Reddding, Ashland, Medford are all within 300 mi. Not saying its a sucky drive, but if you are talented in IT, you can find a job within 300 mi.

The UI laws also say that if you cant find a job near you, and you refuse to move, then you will be found ineligible for benefits. Doesn't matter if you bought a house.

Also, they will ask if you are at ALL qualified for other kinds of work (e.g. regular tech support). If you are, and you dont take a lower end job and try to stick it out for a manager position, you'll also lose your benefits.

I'm not saying this to depress you - just trying to encourage you NOT to rely in UI benefits, as they are hard to get, and suck anyways.
