Then you don't need any of this Extreme Performance street tires (re070, re11, SS z1, Ad08 and Rs3).

Look into UHP or MP summer tire or even UHP All Seasons (re970as for example). Any good tire with stiff side wall will feel similar to yours during normal street driving.

but after 66k miles, i am or got used to the daily feeling with the 070s. that's why i'm asking for anything that "felt" the same.

maybe i'll just suck it up and spend the extra for a new set of 070s. besides tirerack, who else sells them?
So since you aren't driving very aggressively what is it that you like about the 070's? What do you want out of your set of tires?

In the $180 - $210 Range you are looking at:

Bridgestone RE070's
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's
Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Just based on the weight of the tires I would wager that switching from the RE070's to either the AD08's or the Super Sports you would probably see a slight increase in your MPG (assuming all other factors remain the same) simply due to the tires being lighter overall tires.

If you are looking to go slightly less expensive then options would be:

Bridgestone S04 Pole Positions
Dunlop Z1 Star Specs
Hankook Ventus R-S3

I had the Star Specs. I liked those tires. Very consistent all the way through the life of the tire. I got about 20K miles out of those tires (I drive a lot of freeway). My complaint with those though is that they are loud & they do tramline once in a while (i.e. follow the grooves in the road).

Then going in to the cheaper bracket:

Hankook Ventus V12
Federal 595 RS-R's

I have the Federal's right now and absolutely love these tires. They are quieter and more comfortable than my old Star Specs. I also notice that with the same alignment settings I do not see the slight feathering on these tires that I was seeing with the Star Specs. These still grip like crazy. I also noticed an increase in my MPG from about 21-22 MPG back to about 23-24 MPG with the switch from the Star Specs to the Federal's. I just rotated the tires and have put about 15K on these ones so this will be the last time rotating these tires, but I am expecting to get a few thousand more miles out of these (probably will be somewhere between 18K-20K on this set by the time they are through). I will be buying these ones again (as long as they are available).

I'm going through this right now as well, though just looking for new tires in the 225/45-17 size. My car currently has a set of Kumho ECSTA ASX or some similar arrangement of letters. They are just about the worst tires I have ever personally experienced. They squeal like mad taking an on-ramp at a normal speed. Yesterday in the rain I was getting ABS coming on stopping at stop signs at the speed limit (talking 20-30mph roads here). So they have to go.

I am a big fan of Bridgestones and have liked their tires the best over the years, starting with the S-03's. You can get a set of S-04's for I believe $155/ tire in this size right now from tire rack. That is going to be hard to beat! The RE-760 Sports are cheaper at around $135/tire but they are a little bit harder tire. Still an excellent tire, and the ones I had on my SAAB 9-5 Aero wagon. I drove through lots of nasty weather as well as all through last summer on the 760's and they were great. Thinking of picking them up again actually if my tire shop will get close to the tirerack price on either the S-04's or the 760's.

Other than that, a friend just got the Star Specs on his LGT and they are really nice. Also very inexpensive.

Ever since I bought a set of S-02s, I've been sold on Bridgestone. I've run a LOT of different tires and their summer and max perf tires tend to be my favorites. I've run the 760s on 3 different cars and I am a big fan of them. I was going to go S-04s this time, but picked up another set of 760s off the classifieds here.

Tirerack voted the S-04 the best in its class this year. The 760s will last longer though, so depends on whether you are after a little more grip at the expense of wear or life a the expense of grip (you probably won't notice a difference except when driving near their limits), but the 760s in 225/45/17 are definitely no slouch.

I'm currently running the S04 and really like the tires. I've had them on my Legacy spec.B for about a year and have about 12k on them with pretty good tread wear. The grip is insane as is the turn in, I don't really notice them following grooves in the road. Part of me wants to go with RE760s next time to get more tread life, but I'm not sure I want to give up the grip.

Try Costco? They have the $70 off Bridgestone tires and an additional $30 off installation. I believe they can order you any set of tires as long as it's a brand they carry (like Bridgestone and Michelin). If you factor in the total price, it'll probably be cheaper than ordering from TireRack (esp if u have to pay for shipping). Deal ends on Nov 25.

That's weird, I think you are the 2nd person to mention p-zero hate in this thread. They came stock on my 2010 Camaro SS (245/45-20 and 275/40-20) and aside from the stagger which was out of place on this heavy pig of a car, the tires were great. I was impressed with them on the road, on a track day (Sears Point), on a horrible drive on HWY1 in a storm and even off-road. These tires kicked ***, though they did wear out pretty quickly - but it's important to remember that this is a heavy pig we are talking about.

I stopped by my tire shop today and they were not cutting any deals for the 760's unfortunately. I was quoted around $850 for them out the door in 225/45-17 so I am going to swing by Costco and see what they will do for me. If I remember, they are not willing to install any other size other than stock, so probably won't work either as I want 225's.

Darn it.

pss's have a 70 rebate on tire rack right now. being that you dd and barely push your car just get the evo v12s there is no need for anything more. But if you find that you want a grippier tire PSS's are the way to go http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test

$850 seems pretty high. I bought two sets last year and paid a lot less than that shipped via Tire Rack even with installation, but I noticed the prices are up about $10-15/tire now. I got the $75 rebate on the second set too

I've been running the Star Specs for a few years (up until I switched to 295s which are not available in Star Specs) and loved every minute of them. Daily Driving, Autox, etc. they were fantastic tires.

They are noisy like mentioned and the side wall is really stiff so they can be a bit harsh. Overall fantastic though.

The thing to remember is that OE versions of performance tires like that are not the same as aftermarket replacements. I believe that Car & Driver even said something about that tire in particular because they were so disappointed with how the aftermarket version performed.

Another good candidate is Continental DW.

Completely agree. Well worth the 2 flaws.
