What was that low interest military credit union again?

Hey guys!

Long time...

I'm picking up a vehicle again (RIP '03 bugeye, '06 STI) and recall there was this military credit union that had really low interest rates - to get membership you would donate to a veteran's organization or something like that.

Ring a bell with anyone?

Thanks!
Ambert

I dunno about military - but www.Starone.org consistently has the lowest rates I've seen
It's Lockheed & Yahoo's Credit Union, but if you live in Santa Clara County you are eligible to join

You might be referring to PenFed... aka Pentagon Federal Credit Union.

https://www.penfed.org

besides that, what kind of loan are you looking for--mortgage, auto, personal, other? There are a number of quality local CUs that might fit your needs as well...

+1 for Star One, I bought my rex through them.

There's a few caveats on what you can get with the loan, but that's a bank for you, nothing too restricting even so far as that goes.

I went through USAA and got 2.9% APR on my '13 STI. Dealer was gonna do 1.9 just to spite them, but I'm only 21 and was 19 at the time of the loan. You may be able to do better with them. They work with you a LOT.

Edit:
Just realized you're looking to get in via a donation. It's only for active / retired military & their family. So you're SOL.

I use Wells Fargo for my day-to-day stuff because their ATM's are everywhere.

But my wife and I run our business accounts and kid's college funds through Mission City (www.missioncityfcu.org) and they've been awesome.

My wife also grew up using StarOne because her father was a career Lockheed employee. They've also been VERY good to us.

I was literally grandfathered into StarOne before it started opening up more, and yeah, they've done me pretty well. Was getting 6.5% (not 0.065, or 0.65, six and a half percent) on savings back in the day.

Any 7-11, or other credit union is a fee-free StarOne ATM
