What kind of internet service do you guys have?

I've been using comcast (cable) but it's expensive and I realize that because I only use it via a 802.11G that I really don't need that much bandwidth. So I'm thinking of switching to cheaper AT&T DSL.

What do you guys use, and what would you recommend? I'm in San Jose.

I'm using ComCast also. Even if you are using 802.11g, you'll still be using your full 6/8 megabits on your connection. The only time you'll be going slower than your internet is if you're too far from your wireless access point.

You can always go with the $14.99 DSL, but I've gotten used to the awesome speeds on cable, so I'll never go back. I'm waiting for FiOS. I've also experienced Satellite. Worst internet ever, imo, since it was constantly at less than 1 megabit. I might as well have been using dial-up.

I forgot to add: when I had DSL back in 1996, it was awesome. I got speeds like 2 megabits. Then they kept on capping my download speed in about 2004. Even though I was a faithful customer for 8 years, they decided to cap me. I complained over and over and finally told them I was leaving, since ComCast was finally available in my area. ComCast has gone down 1 time in my years of usage. My final year of DSL, they kept on capping me and the internet would go down at least once a week and I wouldn't have service for a full 24 hours.

6Mbit/700Kbit ADSL through DSLExtreme.com. been using them 4+ years with maybe 3-4 total interruptions, most being in the middle of the night. I pay $65 a month for the bandwidth and 8 static IPs so I can run a mail/web/sql server at home.

I would suggest either sonic.net or DSL Extreme. if you go with them you can use me as a referal so I get a free month of service. my email is drama...at...dslextreme.com. replace the ...at... with an @ symbol of course.

You realize that your 802.11g is faster than any comcast or DSL connection out there, right? Its not your wireless thats limiting you....

I had comcast then switched to Yahoo AT&T DSL and there is NO DIFFERENCE!!!

Well there is 1 comcast is a f*&^ing rip off! DSL has the same speed for wayyyy cheaper.. I sometimes play computer games(not lately) but get the same ping as i did on comcast..

I really hate comcast.

Cable is faster.

I use DSL though because I'm poor like that.

Because obviously the only thing anyone cares about is ping latency
