Whoa, so BAIC has been reduced to a thread apparently. It's been a looooong time, but my 05 is still chugging along.

I popped in on the off chance that anyone would have some leads to a go-to smog place in the East Bay. It's that time of [every other] year again when I do my dp swap to stock and get my smoggy smog on. Thing is, past couple of years the place I go to has really sweated me for the uppipe which I never switch out. It has always passes the sniffer and visual with just the stock dp swap. But the last time the guy literally pulled out the mirror and was really hesitant to give me the visual pass but eventually did.

Anyway, I know it's an odd ask (like a ghost coming into the room asking for a favor) but I thought I'd give it a shot. Feel free to pm. If not, no worries, good so see some old fogies still keeping the BAIC running.
<--- I missed this guy.

Which UP are you running?

EDIT: Ah, just saw on your profile that you have a wrx..so it's supposed to be catted - the STi was not AFAIK.

That is correct, 05 was still 2.0L and has a catted up pipe. All STIs do not. The STI up pipe looks exactly the same as the WRX one visually and will pass because I had it on both of my wagons and FXT when I had them and they always passed.

I'm running a Helix Flex. Last time around when the guy was looking for the second cat at some point said "oh there it is." Thinking he maybe thought braided portion was the cat? I'll probably just go to the place I normally do and try my luck.

Good luck!

I remember the last time I had to smog the STi the tech knew very little. He called me in and said he was going to have to fail be because of the UP. I said what do you mean. He then pulled up an image from Google Images showing a 2.0 WRX engine with a catted UP. I had to explain to him that the STi did not have one and you should look that up. After some back and forth he called his boss and the boss said to pass me.

Lol, wrong car, wrong motor. STI UP has the Subaru engraving on it, so most techs see that and are good with that.

I picked up my new one this weekend: 2010 STI hatch w/126K, stg 2, owned by Subaru mechanic
It needs a bunch of work. It is due for a timing belt and is about 15,000 miles over due for sparkplugs. The normal valve cover gasket leak so I get lots of smoke. It has like 200,000 miles on the clock. I am thinking it is due for a rebuild. It is bouncy so I am guessing it needs struts. Perhaps I may finely tune it.

hahaha yea, I was just saying that it alllllll depends on the tech you get and their knowledge. Even when you have the right stuff on the right car, they can be wrong.

Wonder if I should take my 06 sti in, haven't done any of the airbag recalls but if they **** something up and won't give it back to me they are going to be paying bringatrailer prices.

I had the first one done on my 05 STi and it was fine. Sold it before the second recall came about early last year.

I had my airbag recall done at Cherry Hill Subaru in New Jersey. They still call me for scheduled maintenance 6 years later. I can't seem to get off their call list.

LOL. Dealer was calling me for service and I told them "You've had my car for 2 months, what service would it need besides a jump?"

Not a ton going on here except it's finally summer. I got off my **** and put some mudflaps on my Legacy and installed the Drambeenie spoiler risers on my BRZ. They had been lurking in my closet for a few months. Keep meaning to sell that car but ehhhhhhhh. The Legacy is a lot more fun than I planned on - especially with the summer wheels and Michelin PS4's so I think I would be good with just that car. I do really enjoy the BRZ tho - it's a sweet machine. Have an appointment to get a quote on a dual outlet catback for the Legacy (like a 2.5GT basically). The rear bumper on the turbo diesel cars is made for dual exhaust but they only have a muffler on the left so there is this dorky block-off thingy on the right side. So will see how much that could cost and if it seems worth it.

BRZ in summer mode on Legacy 17's because I could not find a set of stock wheels for this car anywhere, and I don't really like them all that much anyway. These work for now but I should probably put on some spacers.

Legacy in summer mode on 18x8 Fondmetal 9RR wheels w/ 225/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4's. Tires are too small because I got them for the BRZ but they are nice, speedo just reads 10ish km/h fast. I think these are my fav street tyres I have ever had so far.
