Dude- its a DARPA Grand challenge vehicle, The military doesn't have to hire them, they're already working for them.

They'll just send that thing to drive itself across the desert, and if its succesful they could win 2 million bucks.

And the technology goes straight into the next generation of unmanned combat hardware.
