Call LIC Motorsports. They used to have a box of old ECU's before they moved to the new shop. If that doesn't work, might have to call East Coast Swappers or something.

What's the DTC? What did you try clearing it with?

Also, you may be able to send the ECU to Colby at OpenECU/Tactrix to get him to recover your ECU if the firmware have been lost; I don't see that as a possibility as it's still working for you, correct?

I wasnt the one that diagnosed the problem, mechanic just said ecu got to be replaced because its fried... I'll give them a call after some research to see if they have any old ecu's laying around, im sure chance of finding one is very low, but please let me know if anyone has one for sale, thank you

Car Info: You guys mad.
might as well have LIC do a second opinion while you're at it.

Is this a trusted mechanic? "Fried" could mean many things, including "give me more money"......

Car Info: a rental car and then a scooter
if it's still throwing a CEL then it means is somewhat working. does the car run? or run rough? a 98 ECU should not be that expensive. you could even try a junk yard. I also think that you could use other models ECU by grounding some pins. For example you could use an AT ecu on a MT car, very easy to do.
