unemployment extension
unemployment extension
can anyone answer this:
if you were collecting unemployment benefits and your benefits ended december 28th, are you eligible for the extension that was passed on january 8th of this year?
there is so much conflicting information out there and the california office of unemployment isn't helping at all. i've tried searching on line, but it's getting more confusing with ever article i read.

Not sure but...
my fiancee has been out of work for some time now. It's not necessarily a bad thing though since she has a lot more time to plan for our wedding, time we wouldn't have otherwise.
Anyway, her employment benefits had run out ~Dec 15th. Once the extension was passed, she tried calling EDD but the line was completely jammed. A few days later she was able to get through and was approved for the extension. So I guess my answer to your question would be yes, otherwise why would it be called an extension?
I believe the people who are not eligible are those whose benefits ran out much earlier, say November/October or earlier. There was an article on sfgate.com about this several weeks ago, maybe do a search and see what you can find?

But this is what I found on Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren's website in response to the extension:
"But the Republican members of the House decided that if you have exhausted your unemployment benefits by December 28, you are out of luck. Since you cannot find a job, you should not get any help from the federal government. This affects over 7,500 people in Santa Clara alone, and over a million people across the country."
What if you've exhausted your first extension? Only those who exhausted their first extension between April and July of 2002 are eligible for a second extension. So, if your first extension benefits end...say mid february, then that's it, no more, right?
Why aren't those people eligible for a second extension?
