not so fast there daredevil, The north lake resorts are all well within a half hour of eeach other, but north lake and south lake are at least an hour apart in winter, sometimes more, so Nothstar and Kirkwood are more like 2 hours apart, and for my $50 Kirkwood TOTALLY kicks Northstar.
Alpine is OK, but the layout of the mountain funnels EVERYONE down the same areas near the base, its the only place I've actually run into anyone in 33 years of skiing.
and if you really want to know what I think-
California snow sux-
Utah, Montana and Colorado all have better snow- at least when they have any.
And Whistler/Blackcomb in BC has far and away the best mountains in NA,
but the best skiing is in the Alps.
flame away!

babysmurf,
i just pm'd ya!
daredevil,
the 6th is a sat if u haven't checked yet. also, i know u prefer alpine but it looks like me & babysmurf are down for k-wood. u still maybe able to throw a flatspin backside 3.
save your corked-out 5's till you're @100%. a little birdie told me that k-wood is a virtual playground. i actually think of it as one big natural terrain park. kinda the same way your beloved alpine is in no. tahoe. hopefully you'll be all good by the time u head to work @jackson hole. let us know wassup.
BLADE,
sorry...i'm looking to avoid no. tahoe resorts this wknd, b/c the $20 beginner deal i mentioned earlier will mean that they'll be a little more crowded than usual. cool that u gotta pass there though. naturally, like u, i'd prefer the place i have a pass to. unfortunately, i like to hit up 6 or 7 resorts once or twice each so it's not practical to get a season pass. hopefully the folks u got rollin' w/ ya can take advantage of the deal. maybe we can set up other trips throughout the season.
everyone else,
if you're a snow n00b, hit up a no. tahoe resort for the special $20 beginner package. just be sure to get there early. most of the 1st sessions for lessons start @10. realistically, u should be there by 8:30, b/c you'll need to fill out your paperwork & get your equipment set-up which takes maybe 10 min on a really mellow day. remember, it's a wknd so there will be lines. i say again, there will be lines. you may be ok, if u pull into the lot @9:00 but u maybe pushing it. b/c if u miss the 10:00 class, u may have to wait till the noon session, if they run typical scheduling.
if you're just down to get your slide on, hit up this thread already!!!
