I'm also from the south bay
like a couple others.

also, how set are you on heavenly or northstar?

I am planning on going to Northstar or Heavenly.
i found some juicy info http://www.firsttracksonline.com/new...750742382.shtm that would entice a buncha reluctant folk out there just as long as we hit up one of the north lake resorts participating!!! looks like this $20-steal-of-a-deal works out for snow n00bs(no offense) like raazin, robb & WOTWRX.

lastly, i dunno if you've ever been to the snowsports expo http://www.onthesnow.com/bewi/sanjose/sanjose.shtml in downtown san jo, which is going down this fri thru sun. b/c your $10 (or $7 w/ coupon...buncha ways to get this! ) gets ya an early/ late season lift ticket to most tahoe resorts as well as in the central sierras. some lift tix are even good on some weekdays during the season. black-out dates vary fr resort to resort. the ticket you get is given randomly as you pull the arm on a slot machine to get a card to redeem @the resort's booth. if you get a so-so resort, you can try to trade since folks hover around to find out what ticket you might be willing to part with. come down & check it out if ya can.

damn, i hope i get that wknd off. i am so stoked to ride already!

woohoo! guess who's off fr work next wknd?!?

let's get the ball rolling now that mother nature will be doing her part for the next several days! the only little glitch is that the storms are bringing relatively warm tropical air fr the south, so the snow will be falling @ 8500ft. we might just be hammering down on the slopes in the rain.

true, it will be snowing...but @8500' and above. most resorts base(i.e. lower mtn, parking lot, etc) are typically btwn 6200'-7200'. so it'll only really be snowing way @the top if they have anywhere close to 1000 vertical ft(*cough* not boreal *cough* ).

so, i'll have to concur w/ Daredevil & say riding while it's sn-aining sux major donkey *****.

looks like kirkwood(base 7800' summit 9800') is in my near future!

not so fast there daredevil, The north lake resorts are all well within a half hour of eeach other, but north lake and south lake are at least an hour apart in winter, sometimes more, so Nothstar and Kirkwood are more like 2 hours apart, and for my $50 Kirkwood TOTALLY kicks Northstar.

Alpine is OK, but the layout of the mountain funnels EVERYONE down the same areas near the base, its the only place I've actually run into anyone in 33 years of skiing.

and if you really want to know what I think-
California snow sux-
Utah, Montana and Colorado all have better snow- at least when they have any.

And Whistler/Blackcomb in BC has far and away the best mountains in NA,
but the best skiing is in the Alps.

flame away!
