Congrats on the tune and car running better now, Ed is awesome. I also fall under the fuel pump group Ed is reffering to. At higher rpm's I'm not getting enough juice so I've been driving pretty conservatively. My fuel pump will be replaced soon and then I'll be getting re-tuned again. Ed said I should be able to get more power once the fuel pump is replaced so I'm looking forward to that.

Your fuel pump is just starting to go out, Leonards on the other hand was completely dead. Your car was actually still able to maintain just under 11:1 up top but no more. This is still too lean for an STI on 91, but some tuners will actually tune this lean and may not notice a pump that is starting to crap out. If I see a/f creep up toward redline with 100% IDC's, I always recommend swapping the fuel pump which not only provides some head room but also allows for a bit more power and a safer, more consistant tune.

Thanks

I believe the pump was starting to go bad when the car was tuned previously since EGT's were high and according to Leonard, a/f was in the very high 10's up top. As the car continued to be driven and the pump pushed to its limits, it degraded further to the point I saw it.

Thanks

I'm glad to see Ed getting some good followers. He's making a great name for himself in the area and I can't wait to see what comes out of Method4.

+1 for Ed, his ~215whp street maps, and his ~230whp/245wtq race map 4EAT's

I am changing my fuel pump. Had the Walbro sitting in my office waiting for my turbo install. Not going to chance it. That sucker is going in this weekend.

One thing to remember is that if you were tuned on the stock pump and you change to a walbro, you will be running significantly richer at WOT.

Thanks

Yeah thanks for clearing that up Ed. But regardless you identified the problem before it could of turned out ugly down the line, so much thanks for that.

Really, I was told it would be ok to switch as the injectors control the amount of fuel going into the engine and not the pump. I am not saying you are wrong because I truly don't know. I need to talk to Mike. I was told you can change the pump and it won't effect the tune.

Remember there are two main things that control the actual amount of fuel being injected: the injector on time/duty cycles as well as the fuel pressure behind the injector.

So if the stock pump was not able to maintain fuel pressure at higher boost levels and RPM's, but the new pump can, you now end up running the same IDC's as the tune calls for but the pressure behind the injectors is increased. This means there will in fact be more actual fuel flow and will result in a richer AFR. In the case that the stock pump was able to hold full pressure, however, swapping to an upgraded pump should not effect the AFR. BTW, when I say full fuel pressure, I'm referring to the pressure as dictated by the FRP.

Thanks

can you describe these oil issues.

I am and have burn burning a REDICULOUS amount of oil.

And can you fill me in on this "bad block" and what you did with the dealership. I ask because I am currently dealing with the dealership as more warranty gets closer to its end.

I'll let Leonard correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I believe Subaru ended up confirming that th cylinder bores were out of round and swapped out the short block under warranty. I would recommend dealing with Santa Cruz Subaru for any warranty related issues.

Thanks
