i just wanted to give a big thanks to Ed for doing a awesome job last week on my 05 STi protune. He indentifed some serious issues that were overlooked previously and helped me make the corrections and get my STi to perform the way it always should have. Ed you are awesome!!!

Gruppe-S... Don't get me wrong, Mike did a great job but i had some fuel delivery issues that led to extremely high EGT's and det. Everything is working great now.

Thanks for the nice comments Leonard.
When I first spoke with Leonard, he was quite frustrated with the car. Aparantly his original stock block was bad and using a ton of oil. He had that replaced under warranty but still couldn't get the car running right with the new block. The car was very knock prone, and EGT's were out of control (1700F+). He also mentioned the car would overboost and hit fuel cut on occasion. He was then told that the cat in the helix downpipe may be clogged, so he swapped to a MadDad catted downpipe before setting up a tuning session with me. At this point the car had the MadDad V2 downpipe, Greddy Evo 2 Catback, and a spearco TMIC.
When Leonard showed up, I loaded one of my base maps and as soon as we did the first test pull I saw that something was deffinately wrong. The car would not run any richer than 11.6:1 with 100% IDC's. As most of you know, this is extremely lean and dangerous for any Subaru on 91 octane. I did some testing by lowering boost down to wastegate pressure and the a/f would start richening up. This showed that the fuel pump was not able to keep fuel pressure up at higher boost levels and flow rates. I've actually seen this happen on an increasing number of cars lately, so it was pretty obvious that the fuel pump was the issue. I explained this to Leonard, told him to get a new pump ASAP and in the meantime basically crippled his car to run at wastegate boost, very conservative timing, and a 5500RPM limiter.
Leonard bought a walbro and swapped it out that weekend and came back in early the next week to give it another try. I reloaded one of my base maps and things were looking much better. There was now plenty of fuel available and as a result, the car could actually make some power. The motor was still a bit knock prone which is no surprise considering it had seen some pretty adverse conditions in the past. After a couple hours of fine tuning, I was still able to get some good power, and more importantly, keep EGT's in check, get stable boost levels, and provide a smooth, consistant power band.
Anyway, here is the final dyno chart:

The final mod list is: MadDad V2 catted downpipe, Greddy Evo 2 Catback, spearco TMIC, Walbro fuel pump, and Protune.
I want to say this again... I have been seeing an increasing number of failing fuel pumps in 04-05 STI's and recently I saw one on an 06 WRX. It seems while these pumps tend to flow consistantly at stock power levels, they become very inconsistant at even stage 2 flow rates. Its difficult to recommend that every stage 2 car swap to a walbro because most of them still tend to run fine, but I'm getting more and more inclined to make the recommendation with every new failed pump I see.
Leonard, thanks again. I enjoyed our chats and I hope you can finally enjoy that STI the way it was meant to be
.
Thanks
