Great, gotta love that, I've been driving with extra S in the rear for a few k miles.... If my rear LSD goes, it'd be very noticeable as in shuddering etc?

They sell tubes of "friction modifiers"? I'm just ordering the LSD oil, but it sucks because I have to order it, and my suby's my main transport at the moment...

I got a slight tranny whine when I had the Group S tranny mounted.

Tranny mount = tranny whine =D

It was at a shop, and they told me that the extra S was okay for the tranny and diff, I'm not sure if they realized it wasn't a 06+

Don't worry....a new rear diff assembly is only ~$1400.

The stock STi and aftermarket Rear LSD's (Cusco, Carbonetic, Kaaz, etc...) need LSD Friction Modifier, it allows for smoother operation and helps by not binding/locking up. They need to slip a bit to function properly.

Non Torsen LSD's need Friction Modifier. The 08+ Models do not, as they are Torsen LSD's

Torsen = gear style
Non = plated (clutches)

My lgt has had a whine, sounds like a timing gear, since day one. Should - be worried about it? Haven't noticed any problems as a result.

Thanks Noah, thats what I gathered when I looked further into it. The torsen types came after 06 if I read correctly.

Good answer All shops make mistakes, you can tell a good shop by how it resolves them.
