Considering that I have been putting around with 170hp in a 3000lb AWD car... I think 200hp in a 2500lb RWD car would be pretty good.

Power isn't everything but there is no reason the car can't be incredibly fun with some more torque and power nobody is saying it needs 400hp. I enjoy fun to drive cars no matter the power level. My issue is if the car ends up 30k I expect it to have more perf.

I think 200/170 will be plenty for it.

I'm guessing/hoping it will have Miata like qualities around the track. Throw on a few suspension bits, sticky tires, and good pads and you'll be eating up STi's and WRX's through the twisties.

My first Datsun was 90 hp at best and still a blast to drive. 200 sounds like a good baseline for the BRZ.

Performance is more than just power and torque.

Agreed, but I love torque. Are we afraid this car will not perform well with more horsepower or something?

Exactly, some people will never understand that if you've came from a faster car then the current STi you want something at least on par for 30k+ I wasn't asking for 400hp but i'd enjoy a 250/265hp version of the car. I realize for track and canyon carving you don't need all that power but for MY personal joys i'd love the car to have more a bit more pep in it's step.

Then perhaps this car wasn't designed for you...

200 hp or 250 hp is still a good base. There will be bolt ons for sure. I know of one place already working on a turbo set up.
Subaru I guess will be tossed into the drift world full time now. I really like it. But I think I will hold out to see the STi.
