Today's music!

Speaking of music......you know it's bad when you mix rock and roll legends with hip hop artists. A friend and I just had an arguement about how music is just going to trash. Where is the creativity at? I mean...do people really like listening to new knock off's of stuff that's already been done (most of the music out now) or are they just bored and have nothing else to listen to?

Feel free to rant or explain your musical selection.

I dunno I think that there's gotta be some talent somewhere but for some reason we keep getting recycled garbage.

Good thing we got American Idol!

as for movies.....there are actually some great movies being done right now...you just have to look a little closer.

Music...you done got me started.

You guys clearly are talking about radio/mtv music. Yeah a lot of it is recycled already heard it remix..etc...etc...but there are a lot of great artists out there. Once again you just have to look a little harder. The only main stream show I go to is Warped Tour and that's usually to see friends play.

Try hitting up some shows for local artists. Support your local artists so maybe they can be the next big radio band that everyone turns on...that is what happens in most cases.

You want punk they're out there. Hard core. Rock and roll..shoot country...rap..hip hop.....there are great artists out there.

Fighting Jacks
Rivals
Lonely Kings
Un I.D.
Lyrics Born
Drag the River
Holy Vegas Chapel
Devils Makes Three
Fire Sermon
El-P
Mike Knott
eyedea

All of those different styles of music but all quality stuff.

I don't listen to the radio. Rarely watch MTV. You're right...MAINSTREAM music for the most part is crap..music in general. One style or look gets popular and everyone starts doing it.

I saw some good small bands last night.....they were ok....but mostly cookie cutter bands. Same stuff different name. But then again by accident I heard this band called Me Without You. Different....really different. I hear the record isn't so great but live they were amazing.

There are tons of great music out there. Just because the labels are remixing Britney, Janet, Justin, and Madonna doesn't mean there are not any new real artists, although the Record Labels marketing machine would have you think otherwise.

Getting bored with your current genres? Expand them! I mostly listen to Techno, but recently started enjoying other bands like 'The Darkness'. Cool **** is out there, I love using iTunes to find new things.

as far as the jayz over beatles album

all i have to say is this

it is art, it is new lyrical poetry super imposed over timeless and classic beats and tyrhmes. It is art pure and simple it is fusing the old with the new and doing it damn well if u ask me.

As far as pop culture its all crap and allways has been and allways will be.

Ok I'm going to say this even after you all went off on music... I like a lot of the pop/mainstream out there. Its true its not like ground breaking, but theres still some good music there. Now i'm not saying that we shouldn't go with new stuff. I'm actually a trance/house dj and hear all the "underground" "ground breaking" stuff too, but most of its crap. I'd say that in general theres a whole lot of crap out there and a little bit of quality... you just have to find it.

and as for that... thats bs... all the pop trends got to be trends, because a lot of ppl thought they were good enough... aka not crap. I was listening to electronica/trancy stuff before it went main stream. I saw ppl who loved it suddenly start hating just becasue it was gettin play time. Just cuz its pop doesn't mean its bad

Cool looks like you know your underground isht. When I lived in S.F. my favorite place was a little hole in the wall lounge called "Bottom of the Hill." My friends and I would go to hear new local and not so local indie rock and punk bands.

But I guess living in the S.J. valley is all about the mainstream. I can't seem to find any cool urban spots that suppport originality. There used to be a place called the "Cactus Club but even that place couldn't compare to the hang outs in the City.

Dude please tell me you're being sarcastic. Both are great artists and I like their music seperately. But mixing the two is like mixing oil and water together, it just doesn't go.

im not its the truth, it may not be technicaly hard to do anymore but none the less it is art. Its akin to warhol or picasso, in the fact that you are taking something pre-existing and mixing it with some what abstract elements from another pre exsisting art form to create a new spin on both.

(well maybe not picasso but it sounded good)

HAHA good point.......I don't doubt that it's art, since almost any form of self expression can be consdered art form. Now to which degree it's appreciated, that's another story.

But who knows if the grey album and the future of music like it becomes the next wave of Pop music. Look at Faith No More during the late 80's, I think they were the first to come out with Rap n Rock, (correct me if I'm wrong) enter the year 00' and we get POD and Linkin Park. Now to which degree they're art is appreciated....you tell me?
