Cause we all have been a victim of something like this and would all love to string him up in the public square and stone him in Ye Olde School style.

I plan on making a career out of my position now and they will make that an uphill battle for me if I push it. It's really not huge for me anymore since I don't bring stuff to work anymore, I just can't be as trusting as I'd like to be with co-workers. It's just an unfortunate truth I had to learn.

I just wanted to tell a tale that everyone who's been a victim of theft could relate to, would cheer that I got my stuff back and be reminded to not let your guard down so easily. Thieves are everywhere unfortunately.
Why do you want a career with a company who won't do whats right for their employees?

For corporate not to do anything about this is akin to them patting your thieving coworker on the back in condolence and whispering "be smarter next time" in his ear.

Oh Corporate would, but the local employees in a small town store with a small click of employees who are all good buddies would retaliate if one of their people got fired. I'm not going to leave it completely idle, but I'm not going to take it over my manager's head.

Your window of opportunity to actually do something about this gets smaller everyday, act accordingly.

As a past manager I would expect nothing less than for him to be fired. Stealing from coworker? Fired. Done.

Those rims look terrible.

I had to go into work and write my order, I just got back from doing that. I talked to the manager who was there since he used to be my mentor, he said I should really push it and he'll stand behind me 100%. He also was very insulted by the previous manager's reaction. So I will be pursuing some disciplinary action against him

Rule 1 is null and void when dealing with someone who has:

a)stolen from you
b)harmed/killed a pet/loved one
c)caused problems with a friend
d)messed with your car first

There's also the point that, if he stole from a co-worker, whats to say he isn't stealing from the store as well?

Fire him once you have the power to do so. If the incident was documented, it will be legit beyond existing "At Will" circumstances.
