Tip-toe through the pistons.

Well after three weeks at the dealer I will be getting my WRX back. A valve decided to have a little party with a piston and as you could imagine they kind of wrecked the place. The service department has not really told me why this happened; all that they said to me so far is that a valve went through a piston, that’s it.

Right now they are replacing the whole Short Block as well as sending the Heads out for repairs, so for the most part I’m getting a new engine.

I really don’t understand why this happened; I was driving out-of-boost doing 15-20mph down a side street when I hear a hideous sound, the engine completely dies and the CEL comes on (P0340 camshaft position sensor).

The only power mods I have are up-pipe, down-pipe and intercooler hoses, so that’s not the reason.

Does anyone have an Idea why this could happen? Did I just get the one-in-a-thousand WRX with a huge engine defect?

I hope they have my WRX ready on time next Tuesday because I need it to go down to UCSF on the 28th to see a specialist, (disk problems as well as a new cyst growing on my spine).

If it makes you feel any better, my WRX was also one of those "one in a thousand" cases. Spun a rod bearing at 1600 miles while off boost. Powertrain was 100% stock at the time.

Never did figure out what caused it, but fixed under warranty (new shortblock, new left side of motor) and no problems since.

hehe...3 or 4 weeks ago, my car died on me liek that too. i was in the middle of making a U-Turn. i got it restarted after 10-15 minutes or so and limped it home. just took it to a dealership and found out i had a cracked head, a ring was stuck in a valve, and a connector rod was broken.

im in socal right now, but my dad is keeping me updated.

Unhappy

Well its going to be yet another week before I get my WRX back, (making it a month altogether). They said it was missing a shim-bucket (I don’t know what that is) and its going to take a week to get a new one.

I have a 2004 VW New Beetle as a loaner car now; because of this I feel like a 14 year old all over again, only this time I’m a girl.

Happy it’s a turbo though.

shim-bucket = part of the lifter assembly, it's actually a pretty minor part, but you can't really run the motor without it

me too. for me, it'll be about a month, or a little over without having my wrx. they are giving me a new shortblock instead of trying to repair the stuff. they also threw in timing and drive belts without labor since they are taking apart everything anyways. i think sometime next week, it'll be finished. then i have to drive back from socal in my 87 saab 9000 turbo over the weekend.
