TIG Welding

Hey guys,

So last week I sold my full titanium Trust Ti-R exhaust to someone over on the east coast. After it arrived yesterday, the buyer noticed that the hanger on the mid pipe is broken. It was not like this when I shipped it. Someone at UPS must of picked it up by the hanger and snapped it. Anyway, I am working with the buyer to get the hanger fixed. Since it is Ti, it will need to be TIG welded. I have already reached out to a few of our awesome shops in the Bay Area for help (just waiting for a response from them) but was wondering if you guys have had any experience with welding titanium? Is it costly for labor? Is it costly for the rods and wire? Here is a picture the buyer sent me...

Should take about 2min and $2 worth of a rod. Any welding shop/fab shop would probably do that for $20 cash.

good to know. the only thing is the exhaust is in his possession and it seems like he is having problems finding someone in his area that STOCKS the rod and wire he needs to fix it. The buyer said the labor should be cheap, but the rods and wire may be expensive. maybe he said that because you may have to buy the rods and wire in a spool?

You can buy single rods at some welding supply stores. He could pick one up and then take it to the shop nearest him. Suprises me none of the shops have any on hand.

Also is he calling these places or just showing up at them? He'd probably have the best luck just showing up and saying yah this broke and I need to get it fixed. People come to our shop all the time with little stuff like that and if they seem nice we'll just do it for them. It would take less time to do it than to even stand there and talk about it. Really quick fix. Just tell him to make sure he shows up after lunch haha

Try looking at art schools with a sculpture dept. and see if one of the students would be willing to weld it for you.

not many places are going to carry titanium rod in stock......i have a hard enough time finding 347 for welding my 321 tubing. I usually have to buy mine online, or go to my old employer if i need rod for welding 321 or inconel.
