Ticket for Modify Exhaust
Ticket for Modify Exhaust
I got pulled over couple weeks ago for my Greddy EVO2, and tinted window in front of SF state. The cop who pulled me over said that it's only a fix it ticket. So I got the ticket signed by the officer last week and went to SF police station to clear the ticket. However, the person at the window from the station said that the ticket can not be clear beacause of it is not a fix it ticket. "IT IS A TICKET FOR MODIFY EXHAUST AND THE JUDGE HAVE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR." I'm just wondering anyone has experience it before. If so can you guys give me some advice when I see the judge.
The mod I got in my car are:
dp, up, AP accessport, EVO2 exhaust
Do I need to take out all my mods even thought I got the ticket for "modified exhaust"?
thanks in advance

Greddy evo 2....thats a pretty loud exhaust isn't it????
The more I read these threads the more I realise that the word 'Subaru' is a common occurance in the pre-shift CHP and police meetings.
lets face it, the pigs are onto subaru's and are having a field day.

Greddy EVO2 is one of the quiest exhaust for Suby. The cop said he has the right to give me a ticket even thought my exhaust is quiet. "IT IS MODIFIED." That was his exact quote. I was driving normal like others and they still gave me ticket. Do they have better things to do than giving out lame *** tickets..

it doesnt matter HOW modified your exhaust is. as long as you have a cat, youre legal. man they are really abusing CVC 27151, arent they?

You should have a piece of paper or a sticker for that Greddy that shows it meets the decible limits for CA. They usually go up to 92, but the ref will let it go around +2 db. If you bought it used, try to get a Greddy EVO CARB approval code and show it to the court. They'll just trow it out. You will have to pay the admin fee.

i had that paper from greddy when i went to court for mine and the judge laughed and said that paper dont mean sh** in court, modified exhaust is anything other then stock.
but after that he cleared the ticket and told me use my money for something other then a loud muffler.

basically, anything after the cat is legal as long as its below 95db, if only factory exhausts were legal every muffler shop in the state would be breaking the law on a daily basis, the level of ignorance with the officers writing these tickets never fails to amaze me

It's because motorcycles are exempt from emissions and noise ordinance.
Don't forget that loud-a.s.s harleys still get like 30-40mpg!

You can clear the ticket by making an appointment with a state referee. He will do a decible test, and only a decible test. If you are at 96db or below (95 + 1) you will pass.
You also don't have to go in front of a judge. Get the test done and the referee will sign the ticket and put a sticker on it. When the ticket finally gets processed, (took 4 weeks for mine to be, just call back every few days), mail in a copy of the signed and stickered ticket and $10 "administrative fee" and that will be all.
The reason I know this: I had to go get mine inspected when I had a TurboXS RFL. I switched it out to a greddy evo 2 with a helix catted downpipe and I got a 93db on the test.
I keep the ticket with the "passed" sticker in the car with me at all times. However if a cop still really wants to be an *** he can give you another ticket because he thinks it is different from when the test was completed. Any other questions just PM me.
