For those in theNorth Bay:Warning Warning
I still see nothing useful at all. Nothing protects me from them opening my hood without evidence. If my exhaust is under 85db are they not allowed to pop my hood? I'm pretty sure they'll tow the car if you refuse.

what we need to do to protect ourselves is to fight back! it is our right too to sue them for being completely stock or for citing individuals for incorrect violations. by suing them for ingnorance would cause:
1.the state to loose money for paying off the penalties in court not to mentions wasting everybody's time just for this kind of bullsh it.
2.would get the officer that filled out the wrong citation in a whole lot of crap that other officers would see and then they would think twice about pulling us over for bullsh it.
the more this would happen the less the police will try to put one over on us thinking that we are cowards and are scared and can be taken advantage of by dirty law enforcement. at least don't sign anything and question what you are signing and also let them know that you will sue the hell out of them in court if the ticket you are accepting and signing was inncorect all the way down to the spelling of your name!
don't get me wrong! it is necessary to have laws like this but when people in law enforcement use this to there benefit and take advantage for them to meet their monthly citation quota then it is time to make a stand and fight them in court with our rights as california citizens. don't forget we have rights too damn it!
i wish i were a lawyer that way i can use the law to get away with murder.
just kidding.....

You really can't fight these tickets..as they are a express ticket to see the STATE smog ref...he then looks @ the car tells you what can go and what can stay.
The funny thing is that neither of them got a ticket for tint or plates...BUT these are reasons they were pulled over...Just like that police traning video.
After being pulled over, they had to wait for a second cop to arrive to "inspect" the car.

you get pulled over for something and get cited for something else that is not specifically stated, and then you have to go somewhere else that will tell you what you have that is not legal. regardless if you have a alcohol funny car the ticket should express the violation and only the violation on the ticket should be the only thing to fix. if i were a lawyer this would be something that is definitely something that a citizen can fight and win BIG money if handled appropriately.
that would be sooo f''in sweet if someone got pulled over for this bull where the cop not knowing was writing a ticket to someone that had a BIGTIME lawyer in their pocket and ended up suing the state for alot of money for wrongdoing of a california ctizen getting their rights violated.

Stop buying parts that are for "off road use only". Demand parts that are street legal, and make it the vendor's problem. Vote with your wallet. SEMA doesn't give a rats as5 about you, so long as you keep pumping money into the aftermarket.

I await the cop that tries to pull me over. Right now i'm still bone stock so I'll happily shut them down. I swear I get followed by one (probably running my plates) almost weekly, so at some point some cop will try and press his luck. As long as i remember to pull my earbuds (headphones) out of at least one ear I should be golden.
Just had to bump this... My girl and I went for a drive in the Northbay yesterday. Not too far, just up to Stinson Beach then out to the lighthouse near Drake's beach. There were cops EVERYWHERE. Hiding behind trees, signs and in the weirdest places. My V1 was going crazy and it was right every time. Not sure WTF is going on, but it's not just the northbay. My house is around a mile away from the freeway. I got off the freeway last night and counted 5 police cruisers on the way home. 2 already had customers.
For the first time in 8 years, I put my front license plate on. Be careful out there.

Right after I did my turboback, catless, that same night, i was driving down brooks road in windsor and shifted about 4k rpms. and i shot a flame.... cop pulled me over asking me about it, thank god he was car stupid. and i told him "subaru thinks its an exhaust leak so i am bringing it in" and he got all defensive on my end, and was saying "dude make sure they take care of that, your car is almost brand new, dont let them screw you!" i was like haha yes sir, thank you for the support, and he gave me his card if i needed help.. haha..."thank you officer singleton!"
but thanks for the headup mark, always nice to know.

Roo saw a pretty nasty speed trap on the GG bridge yesterday too. One motorcycle cop hidden on the bridgespan, and a gaggle of cruisers at the vista point pulling people over left and right. Be careful out there!
they could be more strict if they wanted there was a test done a couple years back on how many violations they could write on a bone stock honda they wrote over 100 violations for a stock car. adding exhaust is illegal even if its just a muffler, but the point here is that cops shouldnt waste their time, if they have nothing to do send them to oakland everynight on the news theres something about them needing officers there... and yes i do think that they might target the younger crowd not just the import crowd cause i have friends with mustangs and transams that have gotten pulled over and inspected for smog violations, one cop even pulled the valve covers off his car and measured cam lift figures he was an ex mechanic. the only way of fighting this is if you are stock no exhaust, no suspension, nothing. then get the info that show discrimination and sue for that reason. if anyone is board one day get the vehicle code book and look through it its crazy on what you can be written a ticket for dont get on a caps bad side you can get a ticket for everything.

What could they write a ticket for on a completely stock car - assuming it has been correctly maintained - just curious?

hah. what a coincidence. im in socal right now and got pulled over yesterday "because my car sounds like an airplane" at 30mph in a 35. loud exhaust. had my hood popped.
he said "what's that shiny thing, your intake?"
i told him that's where the exhaust begins (it was my downpipe).
then he asked me "who did your intake?"
i told him subaru did my intake. it's factory (because it was stock)
then to divert attention away from my downpipe since i didn't want any emissions hassles, i showed him my radiator shroud, my stock intercooler, and my fuel filter (that's shiny too)
then i asked for a warning and I got it. but he did tell me to go straight home and park the car and if he ever saw me, he'd keep pulling me over for exhaust.
