I'll never get this mentality. I'm no NASCAR fan by any stretch of the imagination, but what they do is by no means easy. I would bet all I own that you would never personally be able to drive like they do while 'only' making left turns. Juan Pablo drove Jeff Gordon's car for a 'Tradin' Paint' publicity event and commented on how amazed he was at the difficulty involved in driving a Stock Car well, and how underrated NASCAR drivers are for their skill. Jeff Gordon then took out JPM's car (bimmer at the time) and put down a road laptime at Indy within a second of the team's test driver. A lot more is involved in fast circle track driving than left, left, left.

I guess I could search but does anyone have the route map? Just curious if it's going by my buddies office...believe it is. I'll hang at his place and watch free.

If he had wanted a drive he could have had one just for the US sponsorship, but after his 'drive' it was definately ruled out.

Your memory is most certainly clouded. JPM wouldn't stop talking about how much power the Stock Car made and his only real complaint was the brakes in the car. In fact, he was quoted several times as saying that the NASCAR was much faster and tighter in the turns (especially the highspeed ones) and that its only real shortcomings were the brakes and tires. And regarding Gordon not being able to keep his head up; I'm not sure what the hell you were smoking when you watched this, but I want some.
"Gordon turned laps within 1.3 seconds of Montoya's best warm-up lap Wednesday morning—1:15.2. Montoya was clocked within 1.1sec of Gordon's best warm-up lap—1:38.8."
Gordon is one hell of a driver if he can turn 1:15.2 laps in an old F1 at Indy the first day he has ever driven an F1 car. I dislike NASCAR very much, and dislike Gordon and his smug attitude even more, but trying to detract from his amazing natural driving abilities is stupid. Couldn't keep his head up...

And if all the NASCAR drivers are so **** poor at driving through the twisties, then why is it that Boris Said, one of the best raodcourse drivers around, has yet to beat all the 'left turn' only drivers and win at Sears Point?

I remember clearlyreading about Gordon saying that the G-forces under braking were more than he could take.... braking from 200mph to almost nothing 3 times a lap like at the Montreal circuit isn't something that an oval racer can handle. The drivers have to specially train their neck muscles for the few anti-clockwise circuits. He also complained that he would also struggle to learn the F1 circuits and the complicated steering wheel controls at his age (very complicated)
I'm a big fan of F1, and seeing the US fanbase of NASCAR (and oval racing in general) is very amusing. A full race where the crowd can see every bend (2), they all pray for a crash (after losing Senna, most F1 fans don't like crashes) and the drivers go round in a circle for upto 600 miles. Like I say, very amusing.
