I find this tragic to be honest, given recent events on I-Club I would assume a little more candor but perhaps that is just me.

This shocked me, my cousin (who wasn't in the plane.) works in the same department as Doug Bourn worked in. RIP to those who are involved in the crash.

Ahh the "mixmaster" - such an awesome plane. A friend of my pops had one of those, a pressurized Centurion and a Cardinal. We just had 3x 172's and a 182. Never flown a taildragger before, but another friend has a pristine 180 that I have been in a few times years ago, and I got to fly a 1942 Stinson that flies out of Tillamook, OR but the pilot got it off the ground and landed it of course... Amazing experience, but like a school bus in the sky.

we have an old 105 (aka L5). dropped 80k worth of new avionics in it and recovered the whole body (thats a chore) and have flown it cross country 3 times now... CT to CA and CA to FL. great machine. he used it to commute to moffet (hes air force) a few times from santa rosa after the two year process of getting landing approval from NASA since its their field.
bout two years my dad and his buddy had a hairy moment. had just finished overhauling the engine and had it die over 101 north of Novato at about 2500ft.
thankfully the old man is cautious bastard and flys airport to airport... they were less than a mile from Gnoss field (that tiny place on the East side of 101) and glided it in there.

My heartfelt best wishes to the family and friends...I have talked to a dozen people that know at least one of these people and it's very sad...

Not sure what a "cesna" is but Cessna Aircraft have pretty good safety stats (last time I checked). A 172 is sometimes difficult to get into dangerous positions during training, and they even glide extremely well. Doesn't matter WHAT you are flying when you hit power lines and cannot see where you are going.
This whole thing is bad form. Not funny at all, sort of sad actually in light of other events that show how fragile life can be. If there is anyone that means anything you out there, you will understand.
