its a nice windy road. it turns into corral hollow. I have driven it quite a few times and the one time I took it during the day there were quite a few cars on there. I figure a bunch of people use it to commute on. As long as you don't get stuck behind a slow car you will be ok, there are a few parts that are pretty windy and so the average person will take it really slow

Tesla becomes Corral Hollow as it heads east out of town, and it goes past the Carnegie OHV park.
I'd say it is a very nice alternative to 580, also check out Patterson Pass, which goes through the wind farms between Tesla and 580 or Altamont pass road on the north side of 580.
and yeah to what ish said, it isn't exactly a secret to people who do that commute, and not everyone will want to drive as fast as you might...

Tesla is a nice enough road if you feel like a change, but don't think you can use it to skip traffic. Everyone travels on Tesla, Patterson Pass, and Altamont Pass roads during commute hours. Unfortunetly, they all end up being slow when trafficed, either due to "complexity" (Tesla and Patterson) or a stop sign (Altamont - eastbound).
FYI, Tesla is usually in really good condition, but it happened to have been repaved around July 4th, so unfortunetly it was salted with gravel.

Thanks everyone for the info. I did take Tesla and it worked out. I was trying
to avoid traffic on 580, and while I don't think I saved much time, the road
was more fun to drive than 580.
