T-Mobile Reception in the Bay Area? (and other places)
My family and I are planning to switch to T-Mobile around the end of the year since that's also when our AT&T contract ends.
T-Mobile's plans are reasonable, and offer unlimited internet access (unlike AT&T's 2GB cap). Sprint is a bit more expensive and Verizon is the priciest.
In 2005 or 2006, we had T-Mobile for about a week before we returned it because we would get no reception at our home!
I was just wondering if T-Mobile reception has improved since then.

I work in San Francisco (Twin Peaks area as well as around the Van Ness area)
- I have no problems with signal or internet. I previously had Verizon and would get 0 signal and 0 3g in the same area. Throughout the city I haven't encountered any signal issues but when I'm in the ER @ St. Francis in San Francisco, I get 0 internet service while others still have theirs. Call quality also declines but I'm assuming its because I'm in the hospital.
Live in San Mateo (Hillsdale Area)
- A few dropped calls since I've had the phone. My g2 would occasionally have no bars but after a minute or two or restarting my phone I would have 4-5 bars. Have perfect internet service (80% HSPA) throughout the house except for the basement.
Go to school in San Rafael (Dominican Univ.)
- Zero Problems with signal and internet service. Get HSPA all the time.
Hope this helps and I personally think the G2 is a kickass phone.

Live in Castro Valley and have great reception. Ive had very few dropped calls since I signed on with T-Mobile a year and some ago. Pretty happy with the reception, usually get reception everywhere even when others don't. I'd say its an a lot better company than before. When they first came out I remember hearing the service was terrible. A lot of dropped calls and no or low reception. Now things look a lot better, plus their 4G service is working or about to go live soon.
I don't know if its my phone. I have the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and the reception in the central valley is horrible for me. I think its my phone because before I upgraded from the G1 I didn't have this prob.
Customer service is good I will say.

They use at&t's old towers, and u only have that 2 gb data cap if u have never had a smart phone...
When I was considering T-Mobile, I went into a store and said I was interested, but concerned about reception. They offered me a 1 month trial period to test the reception and phone. If I didn't like the service, I could return the phone and just pay for the month.
Its worth asking if they would still do this - especially given they'll get several clients in one go.
In my case, the service and phone worked out great. I'm still with them 5 years later.

In the mid 2000s, my T-Mobile signal would be on/off. It was either full bars or no service at all.
Still sort of the case now. I miss AT&T service, they had more coverage.
