AT&T/Cingular

I heard from my friend who works for AT&T/Cingular that all Cingular phones can only use Cingular's network, but can't use AT&T's network. But only AT&T phones can use both AT&T and Cingular networks. Is this true?

If it is, I'm never getting rid of my at&t phone

Cingular owns AT&T. The networks are one and the same.

False. It entirely depends on the phone and the towers in use in the area.

As a former AWS employee who went through CSR training (as well as all teh other tranings - I was an outage suypport analyst, and so had to kow how they work), I can tell you that we told the CSR's very little about how the phones work. No CSR at AWS is an authority on anything beyond billing practices.

but if cingular only users try and manuallysearch for another network, will AT&T's network pop up?

Because whenever I manually search for another network, I always see both AT&T and Cingular.

I was told by the person at the cingular/att store that if cingular is signal is not available and the att signal it, it would pick it up. Not sure if that were true, but I can't get their signals past my dinning room.

According to what I heard, what you said is true as of right now.

However, Mid March that will no longer be valid b/c both networks will be combined by then.

AT&T uses 850 freq and Cingular uses 1900 freq as long as your handset runs off both freq then you should be fine but to those who have really old handsets theres a chance you might not have the 850....

But to answer the question cingular is running off both freq it just depends where your at and which freq is stronger at that specific area.
