Insurance appraiser came out today and took one look at the car and said he was going to suggest a new hood and new grill at the very least. I hadn't popped the hood since the accident but there is a piece of fiberglass from the board still stuck under it. He didn't want me to pop the hood because it might not close again. He says it'll be listed as a comprehensive claim, which is good since my deductible is only $50 for comprehensive. So even if the other guy's insurance won't pay up, I'm only out 50 bucks. Now I've got to make a new post about something related..
hye if u think about it....if u wanted to go with some people and get the carbon fiber hood....that will only cost u 50 bucks...and since insurance quotes your price on oem parts....u probably wont even have to pay that 50 bucks yourself....cuz i'm pretty sure the CF hood is cheaper than the oem..

Just stick with the factory aluminum hood. It's the real trick piece because it takes more tooling to bend an aluminum hood than to lay up a carbon fiber hood. No worries about the damn thing discoloring from ultraviolet exposure or the hood latch ripping out of the carbon fiber at high speed. No unsightly hood pins, either.
Carbon fiber on race cars look okay but the black carbon fiber hood on a painted car looks like one out of twenty riced-out Hondas on the road, along with their wannabes with hoods painted flat black.
You have an STi. Save your money for parts that make your car handle better or go faster.

but then it's insurance. so i guess it's just preference when it comes to the hood...honestly the aluminum weighs like what? 20lbs? it's pretty lightweight if u ask me....but since you're going to get the check from the other parties insurance, u can always get a CF one for cheaper...then save up the rest of the money and also have your deductible covered. I've also seen some people who painted their CF hoods with light coats so u see some coloring, but if u look closely u also notice the CF weaves.

Yeah, it's a personal preference, too. Didn't mean to sound so opinionated in the previous post.
I'm glad the insurance worked out for Kuonji.
