A tripod is a tripod...no sense in buying a good one unless you want a light one for hiking. I'll give you 100 pictures and you wouldn't be able to tell me which pic used the cheapo tripod.

I got my $40 Fry's Velbon and its very nice. Go to Fry's they have a lot of Velbons from $20-$50

Anyways... I went to Fry's and bought a Sony tripod. Was like $35
Folds up about the sizes of my cam bag and is light weight. Opens to about 4.5 feet tall.

I do wish to find a level on my next one. I might just add one to this. I love the size and weight of this one. Works well being clipped to my bag.
Make sure the level is on the head and not the tripod. Mine has one on the legs, which is pretty much useless since the head moves independently

I am going to make a nice plate that mounts between the cam and the head. Then put the bubble on that.

I have this one:

I bought a 2.5 weight and it slides right onto the middle post (which makes for a great camcorder stabilizer too!

I thought it would be a pain to have to take the weight on and off constantly, but i just leave it on all the time.

Yuri, if you're still looking for tripods here's a good read: http://www.bythom.com/support.htm

even though what he talks about is a bit out of your budget (hell, it's even out of my budget), it gives you a good sense of what to look for when shopping for a tripod.

Fortunately, money is not an issue for me. Therefore, I would like to buy a tripod that I will not have to replace soon.

Hahaha at this point everything since I am a total n00b to digital photography (and since I used manual for the longest time) Shooting and editing (Photoshop, etc) tips are my main interests.

I am hoping to get a camera in couple months at the start of summer when work and travel (hopefully) die down, so I want to be somewhat versed in what I can actually do with that equipment.

What's ken rockwell?
