Subaru "Premium" Amp/Subwoofer: worth it?

I've always had custom stereo systems in my previous cars, but I simply haven't had the urge to do that since I bought the STI. However, it would be nice to be able to listen to the music clearly with the windows down, or maybe turn it up a bit and not hear distortion through the components.

I don't want to spend $2k+ or add a lot of crap to my car, so I'm curious: does anyone out there have the Subaru amp/sub that mounts under the seat? How do you like it? Does it have a crossover? Does it connect to the back of the HU with an RCA plug or does it use some proprietary method that keeps you from using it with an aftermarket deck?

I have it. For a little thing, it's pretty good and it does the job. I don't like anything louder because it makes me dizzy.

I also have the upgraded sound system which makes it sound better.

one thing I am so happy about in my tribeca is the updated sound is very nice. Never had stock amps and such or stereo be so nice as it is in the tribeca. some friends actually thought I put my custom system in it.

If you know what a computer's powered subwoofer sounds like, that's pretty much it. My RS came with one, but it isn't hooked up because I have an aftermarket head unit and sub. In the ol' school RS's, even the upgraded system sounds like ***.

Don't get it... TOTALLY not worth it... You're 500x times better off getting some high bass door speakers and you'll have a 10x better result. The stock sub is HORRIBLE.

Don't do it! It's a rip off too.

The impreza premium sound package is MUCH different then that of the tribeca and legacy models... The legacy and tribeca premium sound packages are sooooo much better then the lame *** impreza one.

I got the Premium Sound package and under-the-seat sub and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It's more than enough for me, but then again, I play music for my own enjoyment, not for all the other human beings within a square block

To be honest, the sub's fairly low-powered, but it combines nicely with the Premium Sound package.

Is it the same sub that came in the 2.5 RS and early WRX? Its the under the seat module thats made of plastic about 10inches long by 5 inches wide?

Not worth it. If you're going to spend money on a budget sound system, do it the right way and avoid the Subaru unit. The premium sound system in my WRX was crappy compared to a lot of other cars in it's class.

from your post, It sounds as if a set of nice component speakers(tweeter and woofer is separate ) for your doors would be better suited for you.
