rotors are for what, heat dissapation right?
i might be thinking the wrong thing, but, if you get a kickass set of pads that are supremo, then perhapse they might just **** up your stock rotor, no?

It's probably worth it to upgrade to StopTech or DBA slotted rotors, either one-piece or with an aluminum hat to save some unsprung weight.

I don't know if others agree but I don't ever like to resurface brake rotors. Subaru, as well as many other OEM, specifies a minimum rotor thickness because it is the mass of the rotor which allows the it to absorb and dissipate the massive heat. I consider rotors to be throwaway items if rotor runout indicates an untrue surface.

If you re-use the stock rotors I think that if you properly bed-in the new pads you should be alright.

Also, keep in mind that tires make a difference in overall braking performance. Sticky tires like Toyo RA-1's will provide consistent grip under max effort braking compared with OEM RE-92's. Other 'normal' street performance tires will also be better than OEM tires.

Actually, I'd go with HAWK APS pads for the 4-pots. Ive seen a few reviews from people saying they are better than the stock pads (better grip AND less brake dust), and actually cost a little less. So maybe buying the caliper seperate, then picking pads + rotors might be a good idea.

As for the willwood/perrin, some of those have issues since they dont have dust guards. They arent as reliable as the Subaru 4-pots.

i am pretty sure these are discontinued, because ive checked the perrin website, along with the wilwood site, and i cant find any other info on these.
btw, didnt someone in this same thread mention some distaste for willwood brakes?

Without reading the rest of the thread or knowing if you've decided, Ave, getting the factory 4 pots over the LGT brakes would be a mistake.

I know it's hard to get over the piston difference, but the fact is that the Legacy brakes outperform the 4 pots in every single way. They are lighter, clamp harder, have significantly more pad surface area, use much larger diameter and thicker rotors, have vented rear rotors, etc etc etc etc. They are also less expensive. You can get everything necessary to install the '05 Legacy GT front brakes from a dealership -- from dust shields to retaining clips to rotors, etc -- for ~ $620. The vented rear setup is like $530. You can get Bobcats for the LGT now, too.

They dwarf the factory rotors, calipers, and pads. You need 17" wheels to clear them. They also dwarf the 4 pots, while weighing less.

Jeremy

...when I drove the '06 WRX I was completely and totally unimpressed with the brakes... Subaru's been using those cast iron 4 pots since like 1993. Additionally, the caliper bracket is cast into the back half of the caliper so you can never run larger rotors. GET THE LGT ONES if you feel you need big brakes!

i think its worth it to get a new set of rotors. actually, the stock rotors are not bad. if you want slotted or drilled, i would stay away from drilled and just get slotted if you really want some feature. i just got some brembo front rotors (oem replacements, from tirerack) and oem rear rotors (you dont need anything crazy in the rear, unless you go w/ a bbk of course). as someone mentioned, they dissipate heat; the more rotor material there, the better. i also got some axxis deluxe plus pads and bled the lines with valvoline synpower. its better than when it was new. i really like my brakes right now. its kind of a conservative setup but it works for how much i paid.

What do you mean not as reliable as the Subaru 4 pots? Can you explain some more about that? Also, no dust guards = more brake dusk?

Sh*t...if I sound like a noob, its because I am a noob, someone needs to explain this to me :P
