sub $100 spring install in the BA a myth?
there are 3 issues really keeping me from a diy:
1. I live in sf, no space to work
2. dont have all the "proper tools", getting tha center bolt off sounds like a pain w/out air tools
3. very little alone time

imo a spring install its a really straight forward job, just takes a little time. when it comes to ie motor build, wiring, advanced suspension setup work, custom, its a bit of a different story. but yeah, i guess i wouldnt just trust anyone i didnt know to do work on my car unless i was invloved in the work. not going to point any fingers but some shops have done real ****ty jobs as well... some will go the extra mile to ensure perfection and cleanliness.
I think we're all well aware of the inherent risks associated with non professional installs, but its not 25-50$ its more like $200-$300, and I dont think it matters what car you're changing your springs on, they're all pretty much the same as far as cost(except civics). not to mention that this is not a necessity, its just for fun.
anyways, the thread was about finding a decent shop that people have had a good experience with, and doesnt charge all that much b/c their experience, tools, and knowledge of subaru's allows them to perform a spring install in under an hour. Not about solicitation of backyard installs; although all the offers are appreciated and I may go that route, provided I would be involved in the install so I can pick up a new skill in the process

You will also need an alignment, add that into the cost and $50-$80 is not going to happen.
I've used Auto Innovations in Milpitas many times; they do spring installs and alignments and have worked on a lot of Subarus. AHQ (Redwood City) does great work and could probably do the springs, but they don't have an alignment machine.

im suprised you havent called any of our friendly bay area shops. Mach III/Faxon Garage is right in SF, and they do good work.
Of course, not to take anything from GST or Speed Element/Blox or Auto HQ....
