sounds dope, if you like it loud. (ran mine around the block a few times with an open down pipe) however, I am sick of my 3" with a strait through "muffler" too loud. yes running open exhaust will retain the suby rumble. They reason they have that distinctive exhaust note is the boxer sound gets enhanced by the un-equal length headers. Correct me if I am wrong guys.
Why do you want to run open exhaust?

Yeah, cheap mans exhaust. Some people only like name brand stuff, some people like straight pipes for the cost some people only like name brand. The whole reason why I spent so much on my straight pipe was because it was titanium, jdm, and weighed nothing.
Hell yeah, straight pipe ftmfw dude! It was the very first mod i just had to do for sure, coming from a super loud, popping, obnoxious SRT-4 & all. I have a 3" straight pipe cbe (custom made) & that ****'s hella loud, you def still hear that unique badass boxer rumble tenfold. I have yet to hear anything legally louder on a STi cuz i still have my cats on. Man, if i only had a downpipe...It's the loudest & cheapest exhaust imho, plus it looks rally stealth! If you like really loud rumbly exhaust then it's the only way to go!

It is really loud. Sit in a car w/ someone who has a blitz Nur Spec R and excpect that type of drone and have it be a bit louder than that.

Haha, I love it! I maintain that the saying holds true for cars because it keeps people from stepping out in front of you.
As for straight pipes? I ran my car for 10 feet with an open DP and hated it, I was convinced something was going to break because it was TOO loud, although I know it wasn't going to break anything. It did lose, IMHO, some of the deep tones of the sound. Became raspier.

That will happen if you don't use a resonator or use a metal like Titanium like my Trust PE Ti-R. Some people love the sound, others don't. I'm not a fan of the sound of my exhaust at low rpm, but everything 3500 and up is sex for the ears.
i ran open stock downpipe for a day or two. it was wayyy to loud for daily driving, everything in the car was rattling and shaking. EVERYTHING, it made me feel like i had a really sucky car on the inside. the sound was really nice though, it was really mean and loud. like somebody said earlier, everybody notices you when you back up the car lol
I absolutely love exhausts that are straight nasty on a subie. Mine gurgles and pops and rattles my entire car enough to make my coins in the cointray dance. I'll eventually be deaf. Look into an electric cutout possibly. It'll give you loud and then some, trust me.
