They look for little crap like FRONT LICENSE PLATE and if you don't have it, you're owned.
Don't get me wrong, I h8 those f'ers that are no good for nothing but issue citations and munch on donuts all day long.

Being as I have a few things that are deemed "for off road use only" I make my car as legal as possible at a glance, even if you look underneath because I have my cute O2 sensor protector that looks an awful lot like a cat
The front plate is very obvious and if they have the slightest whim to pull you over that will do it. I got pulled over 3 times in my accord and they each claimed the reason was no front plate, after the 3rd time I learned my lesson and left the plate on. The only time I've been pulled over in the wagon was for no front plate, now it's on and stays on. It's the most common thing they do use to pull you over an pop you for more things.
