sti disadvantage from cops...
I've been pulled over in my sti before I was even issued plates from the DMV. Had the sticker on the windshield and all. Since I was pulling out of the gas station when the cop saw me *1:30am and the only car on the road* there was no possible way to mistake me for breaking any laws. He went out of his way to cross 2 lanes to follow me 1/3 of a mile to my house and then pull me over. Gave me sh*t about my "modified exhaust" and no plates.
Apparently owning a new car w/o plates yet is a crime, as is a stock exhaust. He told me to change it or he'd write me a ticket next time....LMAO how ironic. 20 minutes wasted of my life.

that's not the first time I've heard that. I got a parking ticket for not having any identification on my car at BART. Car was new. Dealer plates still on and sticker on the window? WTF? I've heard of a few people recently getting pulled over for modified exhaust on new model sti's and wrx's because of the shiny single tip.
I would have told him to write me a damn ticket for my stock exhaust and no plates. Then I would have proceeded to take photos of every car and truck on the road with a shiny big single tip exhaust and ask why they aren't getting pulled over for modified exhausts and no plates. Seriously. I have told a cop to write me a ticket before. I get a little heated at cops from time to time. bit whem you get pulled over like 10 times and get OVER 15 tickets in about a 6 month period you begin to hate them. Most of them I did nothing wrong and was not driveing a "ricer" with a wing or big exhaust. My wagon is 10 times louder than that thing was.
I mean...when is the last time you saw a truck with huge twin tip "modified" exhausts that's much louder than an STI get pulled over for modified exhaust. I mean the freakin dealerships install them as options or part of packages. I nearly bought one.
I seriously think it's getting close to class action lawsuit time. With the user numbers we have here and on the other site we should have no problems building a profiling case. Shoot imagine if honda-tech, superhonda or the srt4 forums got involved. Could even talk to the truck and muscle car guys to see how many of them get harassed.

Of all the times I have been pulled over, no cop has ever said anything about my front plate. Maybe I haven't met the right cop yet.

you see these "no front plates" stories on the club once in awhile and it just bugs me. why would you want to leave teh plate off if you know others are getting harrassed for it?
sure, it's a free country -- do what you want. but no front plates, loud exhaust, BOV's, etc....and you're jsut asking for it.
Don't the stock STi's come w/o a front plate from the factory? And it's illegal? My friends 2004 Jetta GLI doesn't even have any holes to put the front plate on... heh... :|

check the trunk, the bracket is probably in there.
it doesnt matter whether or not your car "came" with a front plate holder or not. most dealers will give you one for free. having a front plate in cali is the law, whether you like it or not. in other countries like japan and UK (as well as the rest of the EU) you can face major fines for not having your front plate on.

I keep mine with me. If I get any grief I'll just say I got detailed the other day and the dude didn't put it back on. Bah. It's only $10 anyways.
Long as I don't get popped for tint...but then again...that's only about $100 after the $10 plus reinstalling new tint.

Lesson learned: Don't give them reason to pull you over.

shirostee. are u a minority? if so, you should be used to it by now. haha. last week i got stopped (well, i hadnt started my car yet) cause mall security thought i was breaking into my own car (bone stock 96 infiniti g20). when i was 17, a cop pulled me in my stock 1987 honda accord and a white guy in his mustang over as we left our high school. we both did a "pedestrian obstruction." guess who got the ticket and who got let off?

it's the law, it sucks, but there isn't anything we can do about it....
