Question SS clutch line / fluid

I ordered a SS clutch line from Rallitek and should be putting it on the car in a couple weeks. Can I just use any old DOT 3 brake fluid from Kragen or will it really make a difference to use ATE or Motul??..... IMO I don't think it will.

BTW, anyone down to help me install this on my RS? I've never done one of these before or bled the clutch fluid, looked on Scoobymods and it will be easier if you have 2 people. Thanks,

-Jeff

I've never bled a clutch line either, So anyone, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.....but I would assume that it is alot like bleading the brakes....but you use the clutch pedal instead....thats why its easier w/2 people.

I did the line and it made 0 difference. It was not even noticable.

Dammit... oh well too late I ordered it already. What fluid did you use?

I would get Motul RBF 600. You can pick it up at any motorcycle shop.

I'm still trying to find out, would it make any difference if I used a typical (cheaper) DOT 3 fluid? I mean I run ATE in my brakes, I can see how that would help because of the boiling temps since brakes obviously get hot... but how would it be beneficial in the clutch fluid?

I would use a good DOT 4 fluid, the same as what I would use for the brakes, but that's mainly because of dealing with water corrosion better, and requiring more frequent bleeding.

The clutch fluid gets hot from the slave cylinder being bolted directly to the case of the transmission, but how hot, I honestly don't know.

If you use the ATE fluid for teh brakes, and still have some fresh bottles, I'd use it.

If not, and on a budget, just pick up some Castrol GTLMA DOT 4+ fluid, it's cheap and works all right.

I'll eventually install SS lines for the clutch and brake, I just don't like oem rubber lines at all. When they get old on brakes, they act like one-way valves thus sticking the calipers.

Thanks, I'll probably pick up some Motul for the clutch. Hopefully I'll notice some difference in clutch engagement, any ideas if I'll have to apply more pressure to release the clutch after the SS line is on there?

the difference should be negligible, because all the SS line does is not expand as much as the stock line, it won't feel like a stiffer diaphragm spring on the pressure plate.
