Still totally agree, and still deal with this every day. Last week, I saw a tractor-trailer nearly drive through a Camry on full air-horn blast. The week before that, I swore I was going to see a huge collision as a full size Dodge came through the sea of merge-tards at around a 30mph speed differential. Surprisingly there was no collision, but, lots and lots of swerving.
Today, I was merging onto a local freeway, behind a fellow that was doing so at around 35mph. I sped up a little, apparently got too close, and he brake checked me 2x. I was able to decline his offering for a collision and get around him, and then I saw him flipping me off and his mouth seemed large. He then got out his phone and stuck it to his head as he was behind me the rest of the time, ostensibly reporting me for whatever he could think of.
After a couple miles I thought to myself, eff this, and pulled off onto the shoulder up against the curb, with hazards on, to call non-emergency and talk to them, see what they said (I have never done this, thought - hey I'll give it a shot). As I was on the side of the highway, CHP pulled over someone right behind me. I thought it may potentially be foolish to signal and get back onto the freeway, so I just sat in my car and waited, thinking he would come talk to me. He did, and he basically reinforced every nasty thing I have heard about a CHP officer. I explained what happened, as neutrally as possible, with him interrupting me to accuse me of wrong-doing several times. He mentioned that it was illegal for me to be there if I am not in the middle of an emergency and he could cite me for this (he's right, my bad).
He basically said that I was probably tailgating the guy and that is probably why he did that. He said that merging onto the freeway at 35mph was not dangerous, and it's up to who-ever is merging to do so however they like, and the person following just needs to give them as much room as possible. I mentioned that I learned about "acceleration lanes" and "speed differential" from CHP directly, and his own department has identified speed differential as one of the most dangerous things one can do on the road way, and that was why I was talking to him. He stopped short, said it was a waste of time talking to me since I just wanted to argue, and said something about how he was going to watch to see how well I merged back onto the freeway.
Not sure what he thought I wanted I guess. I was annoyed by the driver being stupid/dangerous and then following that up by breaking the laws and being more dangerous. Obviously I did not expect the officer to go chasing after someone after hearing my one-sided story. I guess this should not be surprising, but, it reinforces a bunch of things and none of them are good.
Basically I just had a CHP officer explain to me that I am an idiot for following the rules, and thinking that others should do as well. Everything I say will be ignorantly turned around and used against me. Yay for learning!
Driving is pretty crazy these days. I went for a drive last Sunday with my wife and kids, and we saw 2 vehicles overturned (one was on it's side), watched a collision happen, saw the cleanup of where it looked like at least 3 or so people used the HWY280N to HWY85S off ramp as a jump, and finally saw someone who took the turn from 280N to 92E badly and ended up halfway down the bank on the off-ramp from 280S to 92E. This was around an hour of driving. Watch yourselves out there, try not to let anyone cause you an accident, and remember, never talk to CHP/police.
On top of that stop riding peoples *** and get around the stupid drivers safely.
Chp officer was right. Quit ur *****in lol.

Everything that so called "CHP" officer told you was a flat out LIE.
1)Merging onto freeway: CA law states very clear:
21804. (a) The driver of any vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from any public or private property, or from an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all traffic, as defined in Section 620, approaching on the highway close enough to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to that traffic until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety.
(b) A driver having yielded as prescribed in subdivision (a) may proceed to enter or cross the highway, and the drivers of all other vehicles approaching on the highway shall yield the right of-way to the vehicle entering or crossing the intersection.
Now, to break that down for you in basic non legalize english.
"A vehicle merging into the freeway must yield the right of way to all vehicles already on said freeway tell they can reach proper speed" this means, any ******* merging at 35 into a 65 zone, is in direct and clear violation of the law, and creating a hazard for both himself, people behind him, and people on the freeway already, that borders on felony endangerment!

Or..the "chp' officer had a chip on his shoulder (like all of them do) and was getting his rocks off ****ing with wombatsauce. The CHP is one of the worst violators of personal rights and freedoms, and should NEVER NEVER be trusted. I can only think of one group worse and that is LAPD.

Pulled me over cause I had temp dealer papers for the truck I had just bought.
I had a conversation with my mother about her driving habits and how she speeds and doesn't use her blinkers. Her response?
"I don't want people to know where I'm going. It's none of their business,"
I am astonished that she hasn't been in any accidents. That said, if you see a black Infinity FX45 or a copper/burnt orange 350Z convertible in and around San Jose, steer clear!

Clearly there was nothing the officer could have done, but, since he pulled up while I was sitting there, it did not seem smart to just take off, and telling him anything other than the truth would have been much more dumb than asking him for advice (or, pissing him off, depending on your perspective LAWLS). I even thanked him for his advice! Ha!

Now, if it is a FEDERAL officer...do not lie, that is a federal felony offence, not something you want to get mixed up in.

OH, and don't get me started with truckdrivers! I could rage for years at all the times I have had to deal with some ******* truck driver going 54 in the fast lane, especial when it is clearly marked (as it is in oakland) NO TRUCKS IN LEFT LANE.
And don't give me that "you have your XYZ because of a truck driver" **** truck drivers! can't drive, no care, no consideration, no class, and no consern for others. They are a danger to others on the road and should be baned from the highways from 5am to 8pm M-S

Also, keep in mind unless its a FEDERAL officer, you have no duty to tell the truth in CA. They can ask your name and you could look them dead in the eye and say "Micky Mouse" and they can't charge you for it. Yes it will put them on the warpath, so don't be direct about a lie. The trick is to lie to their face in such a way they can't do anything about it.
Now, if it is a FEDERAL officer...do not lie, that is a federal felony offence, not something you want to get mixed up in.

Why are you still here then; SF/CA/US/Earth? If it is THAT detrimental to your health and well being then why not actively do something about it (besides going off the deep end given the slightest of reasons). I presume you still live in the Bay area or somewhere in California? Instead, if all you do is willingly choose to remain in the same position without proactive action...you do not have much ground for constant murderous rants and moans.
I am not saying I always agree with how this country/state do things, but considering the alternatives (ex. my third world country birthplace) and my options to react/respond...I must say, things aren't half bad
