Top speed is around 170mph drag limited.
Lowered, with skid plates/body kit/spoilers you can do a bit more, but you won't have a long enough straight to make much use of top speed, especially stock, in the highway 318 event.
You might be able to get up there on the 14 mile straight into time to make a flying visit to the ranch, or kill your brakes early before the narrows, neither of which sound very good.
Counting on top speed is not what lets you win one of these kinds of events. You need planning and consistency.
If you are just going for fun, then have fun, nothing like an open road race for an excuse to fly down the highway.

Thanks for the info. BTW my car is not too stock. VF34 (supporting mods) and brakewise I have racing brake rotors with steel braided lines and Motul fluid. I eventually plan to go to bigger brakes when I get rims. I also have JDM sti suspension. To run anywhere near 170 I would need a ton of safety equipment including a roll cage, fuel cell, fire supression system, etc...and more power but I fully agree with you on having fun, "nothing like an open road race for an excuse to fly down the highway." and legally at that!

They usually hold the Silver State Classic in Sept as they did this year.

http://www.silverstateclassic.com/en...pplication.doc
that's the link to join...

then you must go to qualifying school
http://www.silverstateclassic.com/en...yingschool.doc
1.To allow previous participants a low key opportunity to shake down their car before leaving for Ely, and,
2.To allow the organizers the opportunity to determine whether new participants are qualified to compete in the event.

http://www.silverstateclassic.com/entryforms/index.htm
scroll to the bottom and browse the link for more info..

hope this helps

Open Road Racing

This was the schedule for the big road races for '04 so expect '05 to be similar.

MAY 13th – 16th, 2004·· Nevada Open Road Challenge
JUNE 17TH - 20TH, 2004·· La Carrera Internacional De Ensenada
JULY 14th – 18th, 2004·· Silver State Gold Rush Challenge
SEPTEMBER 16th – 19th, 2004·· Silver State Classic Challenge

pricing to give you guys an idea....btw you can go as a team!!!
Unlimited Division (180+ mph) $680
Super Sport Division (160-170-180 mph) 580
Grand Sport Division (130-150 mph) 580
Grand Touring Division (115-125 mph)) 495
Touring Division (95-110 mph) 395
Navigator’s Participation Fee 100

Just a little clue for you guys, have a look at the message boards for both organizations- Silver state hasn't had but one or two postings in the last few months, frankly most of the competitors are really PO'd at the organizers for the SSCC as they have fired a lot of their best people and their last few events have had serious shortcomings in terms of safety and communications.

MKM on the other hand is run by a bunch of really good people who are very open about how their operation is managed and have repeatedly shown that they take every measure possible to make their events safe and fun.

Most open road racers are essentially boycotting SSCC next year- at least until they get their act back together and prove to us that they are willing to spend the money it takes and get the right support in terms of EMT's, comm, and medivac.

MKM has all that in place- if you want to go drive fast- I'd strongly suggest going with MKM, try them out- if you like it you're bound to get hooked- I spent a couple years doing these things- but you really should see how both of these organizations operate and support the one you think has the best interests of the competitors in mind.

I haven't heard about all this drama. I am on a Pantera mailing list and from the pantera owners that ran some of these events I have heard nothing but good reviews. I guess it's just a matter of who you talk to. Who knows but I will definetly look at what MKM has going on and see if that would work better for me because races like Silver state are very expensive when all the costs are factored in. Thanks for the input I appreciate it.

Indeed it does look fun and it's cheaper!!! That's great cause $$ is a big factor of how soon as in one or two years that I can run one of these races. Thanks for the link.
