Which is why you upgrade the mounts.
I've seen upgraded 5spds take a huge beating. 6spd is superior but the 5spd is not as bad as people make it out to be. Just upgrade the mounts and bushings... the whole drive train needs it.
I can feel mine. If I keep my car they're all getting upgraded.

Well as long as its not the casing for 02-05 the PPG's should be fine unless you're a drag dyno queen, the torque would kill it. Realistically I'm looking at the 300-320whp range and hopefully a little less torque, unless its a 2.5 obviously. I was planning on equal lengths anyways with an 18G with the Legacy too. I completely understand the 5 speed is up to the driver, Erick had his stock RS tranny in the swap for the longest time and the only thing was a slipping clutch otherwise no issues, me driving it I was like wow, still feels like stock. But now lets say I have a clutch that holds and I shift like I mean it at T-Hill or Laguna.... That tranny may be a ticking time bomb even though I'm clearly not that ******* driver who doesn't know the difference between shifting fast and well and SLAMMING it. I felt safe with the Legacy 5 speed because of how beefier the gears were with a better casing, but would I go over the limit hell no, no need to anyways. But is it something I would rather consider and have, well yes because this car will be a daily as well as some spirited driving, won't be tracking until I have a secondary car. Now if I choose the darkside or an STi, I'd feel a bit more relief when I go out and have fun.
Oh I agree. I've been saying this for almost 10 years. The biggest reason these gearboxes have the reputation they do is because of the hoodrats abusing them. Drive it like your previous Honda, you're gonna break it. Drive it properly, it will take care of you.

No I don't want it salvaged, it's bent to ****.
Well that's the thing, you don't know how the previous owner treated it in most cases.

yeah snap oversteer is no bueno, my two closest calls to wrapping the wagon were both a result of it.. especially prone if you have a nice sized rear sway

Sorry to hear about this man. FWIW I grew up out there and have seen all manner or accident on that thing. My Dad's way of "breaking in your learner's permit" was to have me drive both ways on that, then down 280 and over and back via 17. My Grandpa was with Pacifica P.D. so if I screwed up he'd know about it.
Was this on the downhill right hand sweeper that goes off-camber? If so there's a group of people I remember going after the county to get this fixed. (Believe it or not in the 80's it used to actually be worse. Single lane both ways and no divider at all.)
I learned to respect both spots. Two of the only places where I ever deliberately drive under the posted limit. As fun as it is those two spots suck and take more than cars.
I know you consider yourself lucky here man. Glad you're OK.
