Someone tried to break into my car!

So I live in a condo and my car is parked in a carport. It was ~3:30am and my car's alarm sounded. I grabbed my keys and locked the car again. Checked and the driver's side window was down an inch. Window was fully closed before the incident.

My car is stock except for the wheels. The thief did not try to break the window so I believe he was after the car, not my baby junk in the car?

I installed a camera at a spot where I can monitor what's going on at the carport. Also posted a note on driver window saying "don't try to steal my car. you have been reported to the police and you will be on tape if you try again."

What else can I do? Window visor?

Because criminals are human Let me guess, just misguided people that should be given another chance.

And that folks, is why this world is so ****ed up. Everyone wants to coddle and handhold rather than hand out a just punishment.

I have to agree with bear on this...if the thief knew his hands would be cut off...would he still steal?

I don't think that really goes far enough. If we as a society make it clear that if you are caught in a crime (B&E, manslaughter, rape, any crime that directly affects another person) your life is forfeit without question. I am willing to put money down the crime rate would drop by 90%

You all know I am a peace loving hippie.... But yes, I agree with the cut of the hand for felony theft...
Branding for misdemeanor theft over $25...

Hanging for bodily crimes and armed robbery...but the hanging is over a bonfire...so you cook a little before the light goes out...

Did I say anything about coddling and hand holding anyone? I don't take lightly to this sort of action (and yes I had stuff stolen before).

But your solution to just about every dispute, regardless of how minor, seems to be shooting or beating someone into a coma to "teach them a lesson"...yet when the cops do that same exact things you seem to protest...

Makes sense seeing how the US judicial system has a 100% infallible conviction rate without any false, overturned or reversed judgements...or are we gonna dispense with plesantries and just do this via a tribal counsel?
