Someone help me save this old school RX-2!!
So Ive seen this clean old mazda RX-2 thats been parked behind a vacant garage in Novato forever, nobody in the nearby shops knows or remembers who it belonged to. The shop just got leased again and the property management company left a note for whoever it belonged to to move it out or it will be towed this week. I left my own note on it as well but Im sure the whoever left it there wont find it in time.
So my question is, anyone know how can I find a registered owner by license plate or vin? I know the tow yards do this every time they tow a car so they can send notice to the reg'd owner notice of impound, so I guess they just call the DMV? Anyone have any experience with that?

If it gets towed, go to the tow company and call dibsies on it (I got a 72 510 that way) I forget how long it has to sit to become the tow company's.
But that thing is sweet looking! I got $5 on it group buy!! I-club drag car???

I would pay attention to tip #2, a lot of abandoned cars are stolen. Don't drive it until you know it is not stolen and you have the title. It's not worth getting a criminal record.

If a tow company tows it, it'll be there's legally in 30 days or if the owner signs it over to them before then. Some places charge the owner a fee to do this, which means nothing to you lol. Then they can sell it to you for whatever price you guys agree on.
The tow companies have a limited access to DMV records which is how they can contact owners of towed vehicles. If you happen to have any tow company hook ups, they should be able to run the vin/license plate and get you owner info. Not exactly sure how they're system works (as in once they run a vin it goes in their system and notifies DMV) but it is a possibility. Also a police officer could also run the cars info and get you something, if you know one cool enough to do that lol
Any idea on how long the car has been sitting there??
