3. Mazda Protege with the DOHC engine - most are SOHC not much there but in the DOHC models, they also have stiffer suspension and are tighter all around, I put 340 K miles on mine!
4. Mazda Miata - I think all years have an awsome 50/50 weight ratio. A ton of fun to sling around corners. THey can be gotten for as little as $2K.

This in fact might be the combo....gonna go look at a few protege's today....miata will be the track car.

Yea, the STi was a dream car....sold my other two cars to get it...a VW golf 1.8t and a civic w/ a type r swap (track car).

With just recently getting engaged, me possibly having to quit my job to go on tour with my band in europe in september, and finally having to save $$$$ to pay for our wedding and then saving funds for a house somewhere, I realized that the I had to forego the monthly payments on the thing for all this other stuff.

It's really sucks to let it go tho....oh well, such is life...good things lie ahead so thats the good thing.

You can get a brand-new '05 civic VP (with a/c) for $11,788 if you are looking to pinch pennies.

i'd rather be making payments for a daily driver than a garage queen. or are you talking about how much it costs to drive it (gas, maintenance, etc...)?

I kind of like the first gen CRX's but I'd never drive the ish. Well I'd never drive a honda or toyota. Not a knock against them or anything just not really my style. I had a Mazda 323 a long time ago. That car rocked. I paid 2500 for it and the previous owner was all OCD over for some reason. It wasn't horribly fast but it was a cool little 5 sp and being a better driver I could usually take out Civic drivers on a launch. But didn't have a lot a power but there was really nothing to that car. My friend lifted back end up with little effort he said. I wish I still had that car. Kind of regret selling it but I got a subie after that one.

cheers
