Yea, I agree with ^. No one should have to tell everyone that you're leaving except you. That is your own business.

Well I'm going into the office tomorrow, and probably to the shocks of many coworkers. What is the most politically-sane way to approach my boss?

I already sent him an email basically saying that I did not make anything official and did not even send in my official form of resignation. Not really an angry letter, but just of concern and need of explanation.

BTW, I have a feeling my douchebag boss probably set my "final" day for Friday after my 1 minute 37 second conversation with him saying that this was unintentional, but this is my formal resignation.

You could give him the benefit of the doubt and say he announced it to fill your future opening... =P

+1 on the not burning bridges. I worked as a manager at a small company, and they treated me like crap. I got paid LESS than the average wage in my field... for a regular worker, let alone administration. When I left, I knew they would hold a grudge, so I had to exit very gracefully.... and then once I was out, I disappeared, moved away and started a new life else where.

That being said, no that I'm still on good terms with them, it gives me a great addition to the resume.

Ask yourself, 'what do i gain from this action?'

When we are children and early on in career, we act on emotions such as 'showing those bastards justice.'

If we are to advance in life, esp the corporate world, it is SUCH an important skill to be diplomatic hold your tongue when screwed, etc.

I dunno what your particular situation is so I'm not going to make assumptions, but this is just food for thought.

Its perfectly fine to ask your boss for explanation, but you should have done this last week.

1. Don't burn bridges
Most of the time people have a valid reason for interviewing with another company. If one of those reasons are jackass management, save the disgruntled behavior and sticking it to them. It'll hurt you years after you leave.
2. References "Available upon request"
Don't list references on the application. Here's why. Nothing says that you are going to get the new job you applied for. Some prospective employers may knowingly ask questions they shouldn't. Wait for the call requesting references, this will let you know that you are being considered and also allow you a chance to express your concerns with your current position that may be jeopardized if your employer is contacted. There are laws out there that protect you but that means nothing when you're out a job. I sucks but that's the way things are.
3. Trust no one
Self explanatory. People are a-holes. Especially when there is someone who is less than happy with their job and they get wind that you have the brass to better your situation. The job market is cut throat. At the end of the day, take care of #1.

What a piece of ****. You should honestly call a lawyer. Whats the name of the company? No reason not to tell us, truth is the truth.

pm me the dudes address and ill send him some fresh feces from a bunk return address.

Burn bridges? the guy totally sold him out and im sure had some other motive for doing so. I wouldn't trust someone like that as a reference for me..........that would be retarded.

In addition California is at-will employment.

In California, anybody can fire you at anytime without cause. My roomate just tried to sue his former employer b/c his boss is a douche and fired him on a power trip. FAILED.

I only found this out yesterday, so I asked for an explanation right after he sent the email. So... couldn't really have done this last week. I don't think I was out of line or angry, I just simply asked for an explanation

It's not worth it at all to go through a lawyer and whatnot. And putting things into perspective, I'm still just an intern...

Things will start to unravel tomorrow... Will keep you posted

A lady sued a big software company for racial discrimination. She won the case and a lot of money... But 3-4 years after she won, no job for her...
