that when they took that road to cut over.
unfortunately, this is one of those roads that during summertime isnt so good to begin with.
throw in some snow and it's near impassible. this is from another forum where i got this...
indeed a very brave man...probably foolish, but very brave to attempt to find help for his family.
btw, I'd died in like 5 minutes. I get lost going through trees at kirkwood.

I have a few friends who work at cnet and knew the guy personally. And he will be missed.

What surprises me is that I would figure a cnet guy to have at least a GPS, maybe even a HAM license and radio- enough tech stuff to avoid a situation like this entirely.
It is really tragic, and I think it's made even more so because it was so easily preventable.

Rather than focus on what he could have done, let's focus on all the good things he did do during his life. James Kim was a great asset to the world, and his memory and contributions to technology will live on.

Maybe he wasnt suited for such a task since he is a total city guy. But I dont fault the guy at all.

I admit, my first impulse was that he was foolish, however if I was in that situation..... ie. already stuck for a WEEK (!), with family cold and hungry, I would have probably ventured out too. Only thing he might have done, though, is return to the car that day, like he told his wife he would.
He did, but more than likely the lack of food and the conditions he was in he went hypothermic. Wearing only cotton products in those kid of cold conditions he might was well have been naked. Once those cloths got wet it wouldve made it even worse, by drawing out more heat from his body. The confusion that sets in pretty much did him in. More than likely the reason they found his tracks leading down into a drainage ditch. Poor guy died not even knowing the fate of his family. And that right there I think is the worst. For I could easily die knowing if my family got out safe.
edit: Here is a pic of the path he took.
