A guy that came out to one of my Mt.Madonna runs had a power steering leak and smoke was coming out of his hoodscoop, when we popped the hood it was coming from the turbo side.

I had the CV boot failure and it didnt smoke it just stunk lol

I would take it back to that body shop and tell them whats going on, maybe they can check any connections they messed with if any,

Havnt heard of any power steering recalls....

when i installed my turbo the tension clip to the coolant line on my turbo was loose and leaking coolant on the downpipe causing it to smoke. worth a shot to check all the hoses are tight fitting and the all of the clips are on right.

i believe faxon garage works on a lot of suby's. they are over on the ingleside/city college area.

Lucky he didn't catch on fire. That isht is WAY flammable.

I had smoke coming out that side and now I have a strong oil smell again. First time... turbo was toast. This time... pretty sure the turbo is toast.

Its known that the spring clamps (or tension clips) are known to get weak over time and start leaking, there's a few cars that I know of that have had engine fires due to this issue, but to my knowledge there isn't a recall.

If you have whining and groaning power steering and smoke that you think is power steering fluid I would stop driving immediately and get it towed to a shop.

Lets do a little thread jacking.
I too am experiencing the same problem on my 02 wrx. Stage 2+. Periodic power steering whine and all of a sudden this morning smoke exiting my hood scoop. Its been parked since this morning. Smoke coming from under the turbo? Not blue smoke, whitesh in color. Turbo looks almost like it got hot...thats what scared me to park it. No smoke out the exhaust when driving...

Any help would be great!
