Josh, thanks! I skied them today. They srsly rock in the pow, but I'm still trying to figure them out on the packed pow and groomed. They get floaty/ squirrelly, and they don't carry speed on the flats well. They are by far the fattest ski I've ever ridden... if anyone has any tips on how to adjust to the change I would love to hear them.
I'm 5' tall and I was in crotch-deep light fluffy pow today. Blue bird skies, it was an EPIC day. I was super hungover/ still drunk from last night but it was so worth it to sack up and go.
It was snowing on the summit when I left so hopefully it dumps a little more and we can do it all over again tomorrow!

are those things rockered? if they have ANY rocker you will need to adjust depending on where you are and the conditions. my salomon czars are pretty damn rockered and i still fall over the tips all the time. i ride way more "backseat" than before. but its cuz you can on these skis. they are so sick.
as far as fat skis, you sort of need to stand on them a bit more. and the radius on those skis is almost 30m. that is a pretty big radius for hardpack or even packed groom. and with the rocker of that ski, you sort of double the problem. the initial sidecut isnt even available when on the groomed. so it probably rides more like a 35-40m radius ski. that is old school gs ski territory....
but try to stand dead center, with your weight a smidge to your heals. kinda pull the top of your foot and toes up into your boot while forcing some weight on the tongue of the boot with your shin. anti-gas pedal as i call it. and realize you have alot more leverage on the ski due to how wide they are. wide skis are a trip, but man on day like today they are ego boosting and inspiring.
cant wait for the weekend....

Boardoholic, no acro ski moves for me, haha. Looks fun, but I need my knees!
Josh, damn those are some FAT skis you have! Holy crap!! The ones on the left look they are about as big as my head
What are the other 2 pairs you have?
The Kikus are rockered. I could def feel that they reacted differently as the snow changed. I'm heading up right now so I'll try out some of your tips and see if I can figure out how to handle them better in all types of snow.

yo
hope is was good with the flat light today....
yeah, the atomic atlas' are hugemungous. they aren't mine, they belong to Daryn Rahlves. he lent them to me for the season. the other 2 are salomons. the czar second from left has 133-110-123 and is my almost everyday soft snow ski (182cm). the Rocker next to it measures 147-127-137 and only comes in a 192cm. that and the atlas are strictly huge pow day skis. Behind them is a set of limited prod Elan 888's (188cm, 88mm under foot). Below them are my sons K2 kiddo freeride skis (120cm). Not in the picture are my Blizzard Argos (124-101-122, i keep these up top at the Demo Center @ Squaw), 2 sets of Rossi race stock B-Squads (184, 189cm), and in-the-plastic 1987 Atomic powder plus' (134-130-134, and a sheet of metal that would make any downhill ski jealous).
I have a ton more, but they are waiting to be made into a lawn chair.

When I returned my demo Kikus I found out the new ones were 40%... guess who has her own pair of Kikus now?!

Josh, your tips really helped out a lot, thanks! I think i still need a couple more days to fully adjust but I was getting a feel for them much better yesterday. Also, if you need more skis for your lawn chair lemme know cuz I think we have a few pairs that need to GO. Srsly.

How was the wind today, Josh? I 86'd my plan for Alpine today b/c I saw that the winds were predicted to gust back up a bit (maybe not as crazy as Tues & much milder than yesterday, but enough for me to wait till the next week).

So I figure this is a good place to ask since many of you guys seem like very experienced skiers. Anyways, I skied as a kid and was pretty good considering how young I was, I wasn't doing anything crazy but I could make my way down the mountain no problem. I switched over to boards about 12 years ago and have been doing that ever since, recently I have been thinking about switching back over but unsure of how that might go considering I haven't skied in ages. Anyone else switch from boarding to skiing and how was the transition? Did it come back quickly. Secondly it seems the options for skis has dramatically increased from what I remember, any recomendations on the types of skis I should be looking to demo? I like to mess around in the park a bit, no jumping really and then mostly just all around riding. I don't need something specialized in one area just a good all around type.
