Mines is awesome.
Even before I had a license I would daydream about buying an old Alfa or MGB or something and making my way from Livermore to Mt Ham.
My friend just bought a '97 Golf VR6 and wants to learn that road.
Maybe some WRX guys can show him that the Subaru's rule the road up there?
The long stretches just south of the Junction are waaay fun. makes you feel like you're in Wyoming or Montana, going along flat out thru the country.
Maybe I'll go up there Sat. morning.....

Man i know how to get there (I live in Livermore) but i am bad with street names. I know you can hit mines on your way up to Del Valle lake. I'll map out a root later today when i go out and get all the names of streets.

Well I hope you guys go it should be fun. Just let me know a meeting place and time frame and I'll try and make it. I'll be coming from Sac area.
I think i'll still get some street names in case someone else is interested in going. You ever taken your suby up yet? I took it up with Glen the second day i had it. Man it was a blast.
Lance,
Yes, Mines Rd is off Tesla. Take it for 3 miles, and you will see a left turn which continues mines road. another mile and a half and you will leave the most populated areas, as the road will begin to climb up the mountain side. The first blind left turn is VERY VERY scary the first time you drive it hard. It will catch you off guard so be careful.
Saturday will bring out the cyclists and the motorcycles, so watch out for that too. Right now the road is still a little graveled. There are some patches that are run rough, but only people with coilovers will find their cars in any real unrest going over those areas at speed.
at a rough average of 40mph, it will take you approximately 1.5 hrs to get to observatory.
Too bad i'm out on a backpack trip at Pt Reyes, it would be good to see you Lance.
have fun, and take care.

Pt Reyes is awesome! Are you going up Mt Vision?
There are some cool roads on the way out there over Mt Tam........up out of Fairfax, past the Cataract trailhead.
We are pretty lucky to live in the SF Bay Area just for the awesome roads. We could be stuck in Iowa or something (if you ever fly over the Plains and look down at the roads, it looks like graph paper). Calif is laced with some awesome roads. But too many people jamming them up!~

sorry guys can't make Sat but I'm avail for a sunday run.
Lets meet at the StarBucks on south Vasco Rd at 1pm on Sun.
We will leave by 1:30pm.
Most of the bikers will be done with their ride by then and the road will not be as crowded as in the morning.
Please keep in mind that this is a very dangerous road. Many Blind corners, gravel, bumps and cliffs to deal with.
