Dude, if it's worse than you think and you have to go under the knife, not going to the doctor could likely mean you never walk right or get to skateboard again.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't like needles either. Last month I broke my leg and got enough needles in me that I'm used to it now and no longer have any fear or discomfort. And surgery isn't bad. My surgery went like this:

nurse: "ok, nacho, time to head in"
me: "uh, ok"
anesthesiologist: "here we go"
me: "....."
four hours later
me: "what happened?"

No pain, no problems. Sure, the day after surgery sort of sucked but that's pretty normal, and the recovery from surgery will likely be less painful than you recovering from your injury wrong, then eventually having to have surgery anyway (if it's bad enough to warrant surgery).

Take it from the old people.... I have a friend (who is now in his 40's). He "strained his back" falling hard in bball and just "hoped it was ok" and "let it heal". 20 years later he's having back problems and the dr looked at the x-ray and saw that he broke his back and it healed back incorrectly. Now he has to live this way or have a major back surgery to rebreak and fix his back.

You might feel like you can live through it now, but you'll regret it when you're older.

go see a doc/sports med... i can't see anything bad out of it unless you don't have insurance. even then, how much can it be for an examination?

hey man.. thanks a lot for your concern. i know im really stubborn but i guess this is just the way i work..

but unfortunately, its like 6:50 am.. 5 days after i dislocated my knee and i had to wake up due to the fact my knee has been aching all night long.

im glad to say its been getting better very slowly, i can finally walk but only in a straight line and swelling has decreased dramatically.. however, there are still discomfort and slight/dull pain when i dont move it. tweaking it side to side is killer however and feels like it can definitely be popped out again.

Not getting your leg looked at out of fear is definitely a great alternative to a potential lifetime of pain and disability

take this advice as it's coming from a gimp... see a doctor whether you have insurance or not... dislocations are the most serious injuries.. you know the saying "when you break a bone it grows back stronger".. well dislocations are the exact opposite... ur socket and surrounding tissue/ligaments are guna be all outta whack and if not treated properly will f you up for the rest of your life, or until you get surgery, which is a lot more expensive than seeing a doctor and a physical therapist. As for now, i'd google "Knee dislocation treatment" or something along those line and see what the best home care is, so you don't accidentally mess it up more.... i'd ICE it every day 5 times a day for 20 minute sessions, so that all your tissue and such contracts... the last thing u want is to have loose **** down there, cuz then it'll be 80% more likely to dislocate just doing day to day activities. lets face it, no one like loose **** below the waist right? good luck to you

if you can not move your leg from side to side without pain and its a dull pain constantly, you probably overextended something at the least. If you did that and it develops scar tissue or heals wrong, you will start pulling on the rest of the stuff down there and that will lead to more issues.

i hate to sound harsh, but you seem willing to accept the consequences of your choices. You don't like doctors, fine. no one can make you see a doctor. everyone here is concerned for your health.

You might luck out and everything is fine by self-treatment. Then again, your knee might not heal properly and you end up with chronic knee problems. Is it a badge of pride to have a long list of chronic injuries to say that you're a tough guy?

In 20 years, when you're in a walker or wheel chair, you're gonna say, "what a dummy I was for trading 'heebie jeebies' for mobility in the 2nd half of my life".

GET IT CHECKED OUT.

Right now, money is tight cuz you're a college student. This attitude will completely change after college, when you have zero time, and more money. You will then realize that your health and time are the most important assets.

If you got insurance, go to the doctors, time is the most important. Get x-ray and you probably should get a MRI for soft tissue damage. If there is a serious problem, the earlier you find out they earlier you can treat it and the less pain you'll endure later and the better it will heal.

Kaiser really screwed me, and I am dealing with an ankle injury that occured in feb, long story...They finally ordered a MRI for me last friday (after asking them a while back and getting denied) and I found out there is a fracture...anyway, I will need to find sports med/orthopedics in LA area to resolve this issue...

well...

looks like i am going to the hospital after all.

reluctantly, my dad just seen me limping out of the house to my friends car this morning and lectured the crap out of me. this isnt the first time i tried to pull a stunt like this, being hurt and not mentioning it to anyone.

so now he's p/o and wants to take me himself.

iono, maybe i'm just too comfortable with the fact that things can actually heal by itself not caring too much about future consequences.

hard headed, yes... tough guy, no.. just really stubborn

i'll let you guys know later what was really wrong and i'll be taking more pics to show you guys. have never had surgery before and i just plain dont want to.. not that im scared, jsut the fact that i cant wait to get back on my board and keep skating. knowing that surgery would put me out for a long time. ever since i got kicked off the wrestling team at sfsu, i have nothing left.. so i might as well keep what i got going for me now.. even if it is costing me an arm and a leg
