Short Shifter

I've been thinking about a short shifter for a while now...I like the height that my ****/shifter is at right now(I'm on oem 5psd ****), but I want my throws to be shorter and more solid. I was originally thinking either Kartboy or Cobb, but since the Kartboy seems to lower your shifter height while lowering the throw height, it seems that Cobb may be the bette choice for me?

For those who have tested/bought both the KB SS and the Cobb dual-adjustable SS, which did you prefer and why?

I think the most people agree that the bushing make the biggest difference, which and what bushings should I get? KB, Cobb, Cusco, or what?

Whatever you do, don't forget the bushings. COBB and KB make the best, I think. Front AND rear bushings, and you can't go wrong. Hell, while you're at it, put the Whiteline rear differential lock bushings on and you'll never have any "clunk" when shifting again!
Any other bushings I should replace while replacing my shifter with a short shifter/better bushings?

I know that threads like these have been asked before, but that was a while ago. Since then Cobb has made some adjustments(they use to have a problem with the hex screws being easily stripped/coming loose from time to time is what I read), I'm wondering if there are any current/new KB/Cobb SS users that can give their opinion about it

I've had a Kartboy in every Subaru I've owned or built for a customer. Wouldn't use anything different. I have Tom's bushings and the STi rear bushing. I like.

I got the combo plus for my 06 WRX and the "fork in mash potatoes" feeling when shifting disappeared. I really didn't notice a big difference in shifter height either when changing over from stock.

Have you tried the Cobb short shifter? How come you went with tim's bushing and STi rear bushing instead of the Kartboy bushings and whiteline rear diff bushing or any other type of bushing? Was it because thats what you first used and it worked great or it worked better than the others?

Noah-
What kit do you personally like and why?
Also, did you ever get my pm? It was about brake pads lol. I just sent you a p, just in case the first one never made it

Have you tried anything else? Did the combo plus kit get rid of your clunk when you shift? Sometimes I get a clunk if I shift too fast, but if I take it nice and slow it's smooth.

Is that one of the bushings that came with the combo plus kit vik? And the other would be for the rear diff?

Tom is Kartboy. Sorry, didn't mean to cause some confusion.

I've always used his stuff because there really wasn't anything else available back in the day. Always a reliable product and I've gotten so used to how it feels that nothing else seems right.

The STi rear bushing is very easy for me to get my hands on and fairly inexpensive. Kartboy's shifter bushings are a must if you ask me. I've driven shifters both with and without and it's night and day difference.

Yes, I've driven cars with COBB shifters and I never quite liked them as much. I'll be honest, though and tell you I couldn't quantify why.

If you're talking about the slight clunk from the rear... that's a different issue all together.

i love my cobb double adjustable. i have it set to near stock height, but the throw is still super short. and the bushings make the shift nice and tight... although I still need the rear bushing. I have the Perrin front bushings.

How do you feel about the Kartboy shift **** height being lowered a bit? Is it inconvenient or anything? I guess I don't mind too much if the shift **** gets lowered a bit, but then again I haven't tried one so I can't say for sure. Is there anything else you'd recommend I change out if I'm going to be installing a Kartboy/Cobb short shifter with kartboy front and rear shifter bushings?

Just so I know, if I'm fine with the throw length on a stock wrx right now, and I only want the shifts to feel more "crisp" or solid, then just the Kartboy bushings would do right? If so, I may try that and if I like that then I will stay there.

Thanks

I have an old skool (I heard it's cooler if you spell it that way) SYMS shift **** which makes mine even lower. I like it personally.

If you just want things firmed up a bit try bushings first.

Is the COBB Double Adjustable Shifter even still being made? I thought they stopped making it now.

I believe the guys that had originally built the COBB Double Adjustable Shifter are the guys that opened up and are now making the MODE Racing Adjustable Shifter (at least that is the information that I have read on the forums previously). The MODE Racing unit does look like a very nice piece.

Well somebody around me locally has one for sale, is it worth it to buy a used short shifter?

I wouldn't think there would be any problem with a used short shifter unless the piece has somehow been damaged / destroyed. Same piece, but a cheaper price, sounds good to me.

I've replied to all your PM's, as i do for everyone.

we only use/sell Kartboy...we wont even install the COBB one or any other double adjustable ones (in the past they've only been issues with them, don't know about now as we don't bother with them anymore).
